So I’ve had problems with 3.5mm cables not seating properly on various devices. If you can’t plug the cable in all the way and securely then, yes, you might have a problem with the plug on the camera. Have you tried plugging it into other cameras to see if it’s a problem with them also?

Just a word of warning, since I don’t know if this is something you tried, but the Zoom H4n when I owned it was very hissy plugging in from the zoom line out to my Canons. I had to also put in an attenuator to damp down the audio output.

I finally sold my H4n and bought the H5 with interchangeable heads and a standard audio output that doesn’t need attenuation. A much better product IMHO. A bit less harsh, though it’s been my feeling that Zoom’s are not as “sweet” as competing products. Anyway, here’s the item that might help if your jack is ok.

    From the B&H site
The LN2MIC-ZMH4N-6 from Sescom is a problem solving cable for users of HDSLRs who are using a Zoom H4N or Zoom H1 as a secondary audio recording source. Many professional DSLR cameras have unbalanced stereo microphone level audio inputs on a mini TRS 3.5mm jack. The Samson Zoom H4N or H1 output line level audio signals. This cable provides the proper microphone levels and preserves the delicate connector contacts inside the camera, allowing users to go directly from the audio recorder into the camera.

The cable features a -25dB L Pad attenuator on both audio channels to reduce the prosumer line level output (-10dBV) to the camera’s microphone input level. The cable is designed with the proper impedances to assure maximum voltage transfer and low noise operation. The cable shield is isolated on the camera end to prevent shield noise from directly coupling into the camera connector ground. All resistors values are 1% metal film to assure similar voltage attenuation between the stereo inputs, and cable ends are labeled for proper connection.
Compatible with the following DSLR cameras:

  • Taylor, contact the customer service at Rode. They are great folks and have shipped me spare parts for my units when needed. One of the best reasons to buy their products IMHO!

  • I’d question whether the drives are as fast as today’s drives. But theoretically, this shouldn’t be an issue. I’ve been using a esata to USB 3.0 converter on my RAID 5 and it seems to be plenty fast. Just so you know, I have two RAID 1 TB drives, and they seem to operate noticeably faster when I only use one drive at a time, and hook both TB connectors to it.

Ideally, you want to avoid any conversion boxes though. Does the sata connector you are considering not the standard one that works on all current drives?

Once you figure out if it will work, I’ve got a very nice field monitor I’ve got for sale at a great price right now. It’s been lightly used on my 5Dmkiii. If it might work, have a look.

  • You might try Silverfast 8. It’s the best scanning package I’ve found. Totally pro. It has a feature for my Epson flatbed scanner, that allows me to load up many slides in the frame, and it will break them into individual images after the scan. Not sure it will do exactly what you want, but I think it can do what you describe. There is a demo full featured version if I remember right. I don’t have any financial interest in the product.

Yes, variable frame rates are a nightmare. So I agree with the recommendations. However, I think that for 4K you also are going to struggle with a 1GB video card. That worked great for SD and even some 720p footage. But you are likely to find yourself having problems keeping up with 4k footage with that.

Thanks you two. That’s what I was wondering. There is no hurry on my part. I’ve got enough computers I’ll try it on one of my less used ones. I’ll wait on the production ones.

  • I assume you mean that the C100s you have, using HDMI, will output to a typical modern TV HDMI input. But they won’t to a modern professional monitor HDMI input. Correct? Have you tried using a different HDMI cable? Has the C100 ever worked with the Pro monitors? Will the same cables successfully input signal from a different type of camera into the same monitors?

Why I ask is that if it never worked, is there some kind of setting on the pro monitor that isn’t set right?

The output is described on page 114 of the manual. There is a cryptic line that reads:
“Video might not be output correctly depending on the monitor. In that case, use the AV out terminal.”

I once found that the standard HDMI cables I was using did not work with my newer cameras. When I bought what was marketed as High Speed HDMI cable, which is what Apple claims is needed for the iTV, the cameras worked fine with the monitor. I was under the impression at that time that all HDMI was one standard. They aren’t.

The various types of HDMI cable are described here:

    Hope this helps.

  • If you want to send me a link to download one of the files, go ahead. I can’t guarantee anything, and usually a corrupted file on a card is not salvageable. The fact that someone did recover them but that the files were corrupted as you describe seems pretty final.

    A question of clarification:
You say that: On the second day, however, the same SD card stopped working when I plugged it into my computer to transfer the recordings.. I assume you mean that the files were corrupted on both your computer and the Tascam? Obviously, if the file is not being read on the computer, but is on the Tascam, you can use the USB port to transfer the file in. But I assume you have already tried that and that when you inserted the card in your computer the computer somehow corrupted the file.

So if you want to, send me a link to the original corrupted file at albergstein@outlook.com

  • So how did you work out on this purchase? I shoot mainly with the GH4 and the Olympus 12. I love the combination. I have a speed booster but use it with Canon lenses.
