December 16, 2016 at 5:57 am in reply to: El Capitan 10.11.6 SLOW boot problems w/1TB SSD & iMac i7Thanks John. That’s also what I thought. But I have the nVidia driver program that automatically checks for the proper driver and it told me that I was not on the proper driver for the OS I was using. I do agree that traditionally graphics drivers load at the 50% mark, and I suspected it. But have been thrown off by the fact that the nVidia program said I was up to date. I’ll try reinstalling the graphics drivers tomorrow. My MacBook Pro is not experiencing this problem but it is running Yosemite 10.10.5. I certainly will not be upgrading it to El Cap. until I flesh this all out.
It’s wierd that this graphics problem is fairly common (it’s not the first time over the years I’ve dealt with this). You’d think these folks would have worked it out by now!

I no longer have a Windows server on my net, but here are some ideas to try until a better one comes along:
You didn’t state whether the Windows servers you were logging into were using Active Directory based client login or some other form.
It probably happens because you get logged out of the far end server, and need to log back in. You would have to somehow store your credentials to do that, and if you are connecting to a Windows world they have various ways of doing that.
Here’s a somewhat dated, but probably accurate process. Not sure it still works on all Mac OS’s.
Map a network drive to Mac OS X that re-mounts after system reboot
This method allows you to reboot your Mac and have the mapped network drive / network share automatically connect and remount, appearing on the desktop of OS X or in the Finder sidebar. This is more persistent than the previous method and is helpful for network shares you connect to frequently:From the Finder, hit Command+K
Enter the path to the network drive you want to map, ie: smb://networkcomputer/networkshare and click ‘Connect’
Enter your login credentials and click “OK”
The drive is now mounted, but continue on to map for system reboot persistence
Now enter into System Preferences, from the Apple menu
Click on ‘Accounts’
Click on “Login Items”
Click on the + button to add another login item
Locate the network drive you previously mounted and click “Add”
Exit out of System Preferences
Your network drive will now be mapped and automatically remounted when you reboot your Mac. Keep in mind that if you leave the network where the mapped share is located, the drive/share will not automatically reconnect until that network is joined again, and the Mac is either rebooted or manually reconnected to the desired network share. Here is a utility you might want to explore.

I’d send one in for repair, see what they find. Mine with similar setup do not exhibet this. Canon’s repair folks are pretty good and turn around quickly.

Perhaps you have deleted the older version of the program when you upgraded. There is a check box when you upgrade, that is easy to miss. Make sure you don’t have Adobe delete the old version when you upgrade. Then make a final version save of the project in the OLD version, so you can essentially freeze it at that version. Once you open the old project in the new version you can’t go back! So the best advice I can offer is to finish Project 1 in Version whatever, then upgrade and start Project 2 in Version Whatever +1. That’s the cleanest way to do it. And you retain the old version of Adobe’s product and can reopen at the point where the last version is still viable. Make sense?

October 29, 2016 at 5:03 am in reply to: Problems with Premiere Pro CC, After Effects CC+ El CapitanMatt. It is very hard to understand what you are experiencing. Perhaps there is some problem in not having English as a first language to be able to describe what you are experiencing. It’s just that your descriptions are confusing. So here are some suggestions:
- What do you mean by “FCP 7 and AECS6 failed while the video editor was working and these applications appeared strikethrough in the finder.
- What exactly do you mean by “failed”?
- What do you mean by “Strikethrough in Finder?”
I’ve never heard or seen that before. What does that mean? Were they ever working? Did you do an upgrade and then they stopped working? Or is this a first installation and they have never worked before?
- You talk about using a “server’ but don’t explain what that means. Can you clarify what you were doing with a server, what kind of server etc.?
- You talk about changing computers, software etc. It’s just impossible to understand what you were actually experiencing. If you are not technical enough to describe the problem, can you get someone who is technical to help you tell us what has caused this? It’s impossible to understand where the problem is. Is it FCP, Adobe, some unnamed server, some version of Apple’s OS, or what? You do say you were able to download and run Protools and Maya (on Windows it seems), so the network doesn’t seem to be a problem for you. Nor does Windows computers.
You say, “Others computers for mix and 3D production run and can be connected to the server.” but you don’t clarify whether these computers are Windows or Mac nor do you clarify which OS and versions of the software you are running.
When you are able to help us clearly understand what you are experiencing, perhaps we can offer some better advice.
Best of luck!

I’ve owned both the Mixpre and the D. I also have the Marantz (the best sounding recorder under $1000 that I’ve tried). I have not tried using the digital out to the Marantz though. When I use it, I go directly in to my Mac and record to Adobe Audition.
If price is the issue, getting the Mixpre is a good decision. If you want the greatest flexibility, the save up for the D. Heck, if you want, I’ll sell you mine. I don’t use it much anymore.

That’s great to hear. I haven’t spent much time on today’s processors, but they appear to have definitely sped up things. Yes, though the Mac Pro certainly has some advantages over a laptop, I think you are right that it is quite costly, and limited to a niche market. While I certainly don’t think I’ll move to Windows for my next machine, I tend to stay one generation behind to reduce the costs. Probably a current generation laptop will do the job fine. Best of luck to you.

I think what Gary is referring to is that Panasonic has taken a much more agressive stance on upgrading via firmware. If you want to support a company that does that, buy a Panny GH4 or some such camera. I’ve moved from Canon to Panny for that reason, among others. While I have given up a bit of low light capability, my video is better with it. And I really like the work that they have done to support their cameras. Canon should do the same thing. Olympus does not seem like they care about that.

Since you can crush the blacks in post, it seems better to properly expose in the first place. I’ve personally never much liked the crushed black look, except as mood for very specific situations.

Since you haven’t received an answer on this, you might try posting both in the Nikon forum and the Ninja forums (I believe that the Atomos forum is on their web site). For a Nikon video forum, you might try looking on a different forum site, since we don’t seem to have one on Cow. DVXuser.com has one for example.
Best of luck.
