Christian. You’ve not mentioned the computer you are trying to do all this on. What model are you running how much RAM do you have and what’s your graphics card? It sounds like a graphics card issue to me. Your post leads me to believe you can edit on FCP7, AE or Premiere CS 5. Is there a good reason to remain on FCP7? There have been many significant improvements to Pr since 5. Just look at the chart on Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adobe_Premiere_Pro.
It also sounds as if you are grading first and editing second. That seems odd. Perhaps you have some specific workflow I’m not familiar with. I am of the impression, from all I’ve been taught, that editing comes first and color correcting comes later, if not last. There are technical reasons for that, such as the way Pr and CUDA handle the Codec. There are lessons online that can clarify that if you need additional info.
I moved from FCP 7. Pr 5.5 and above has been very fast to work in. If you are on a Mac, you *should* get smoother scrubbing in ProRes. But it might slow down other processes. Many of us that came from MacPros and FCP 7 may need to upgrade our video cards, I’ve found.
Perhaps try working directly on the footage in Pr without transcoding.

This has been an ongoing problems(s) on the Apple.com support board. Mulitple possible root causes. Read through the list there for starters. Maybe disable Back to my Mac?

Heidi, it sounds like a good deal. While the xf105 is not the best choice for low light it is a very competent camera. PhilipBloom did a good review of it. No, you don’t need to fill both slots. As to the viewfinder, I never used it much, relying on the LCD which you have to train yourself not to trust for exposure. Always use the scopes to judge your exposure.
I have not heard that the xf100/105 is being discontinued but it wouldn’t surprise me. It hasn’t been out long enough to be discontinued by the normal ruleof thumb, but with 4:2:2 mxf recording you will have much better quality thanmany other cameras for a long time. You can also do interesting effects with the infrared mode. Good luck! Share your results on Vimeo with us.
I did virtually no push to the contrast on that infrared shot, by the way. The light worked in my favor. I did have a small on camera light I used for the musicians.

Interesting. So when using something like a Kessler programmable jib or dolly, (just to use one example), you can program in the movements, then transfer those x y coordinates into whatever you are working on in AE and match the camera tracking? Since I don’t get into this level of shooting and fx it’s new to me, but makes sense that you would then be able to take the second clip and program it in. I’ll have to try and find some tutorials on this.
