May 16, 2008 at 12:15 am in reply to: Creating a garbage matte via time difference effect?Hello
i tried this a while ago with a stroke mask effect on a layer.
basically i had one composition in which i used a stroke to reveal a layer. then i brought that comp into another and used the time difference to catch the leading edge of the stroke effect. then i applied a cc radial fast blur and got a cool effect that caused it to look like it was being created by light.

Hello
Thanks. Those are ideas that I didn’t think of.
I was thinking about the tutorials that I have watched at the cow and I realised that the particle playground on fire by Maltannon had my solution for a possible way of doing it. I used time difference and found the leading edge of my stroke that way.
I used it to apply a radial fast blur and it looks like the logo is being written by light, kinda. I am thinking that I will try putting particles on it with trapcode and see what effects I can get on it. The time difference is a cool way to find a moving edge.
If there are any other ideas, please post them, I might find one is more elegant or efficient than what I came up with.

April 4, 2008 at 6:06 am in reply to: Is it more efficient to remove unused masks or other elements?thanks for the suggestions, i found another thread that also sheds a little light on another way to be effcient with the layers you use.
so i am now going to go get rid of masks that are redundant, and then trim all the layers i have to be just the right duration for when they are visible in the comps.
this site is so awesome for tips like these. 🙂

sorry that suggestion for what you are dealing with, 100s of clips, just isnt practical.
if you arent on any kind of deadline i would suggest a reinstall of your computer. windows and your adobe video editing tools only. see if that installation does the same thing. additionally if you have the room to add a second hard drive installing fresh on a new hard drive would rule out both the hard drive as an issue, and windows and the video tools if a new installation worked out and doing it this way could also allow you to keep all the current installation and data.
i know this is a lot of hardware suggestions, thats kind of my background. usually for myself, if i have the time and an issue i cant seem to fix with an unistall and reinstall of my software, then i just kill the whole kit and kaboodle.
i find that sometimes there is other software that somehow manages to encroach on the installation of my video suite and causes me headaches, a good add/remove cleaning can fix things sometimes as well, especially any other video editing software.

could you not instead of doing a plane that is parallel to each other layer, have layers at 45 and 90 degrees as well to allow for the rotation to not show the dissapearing of edge on layers?
i know, that would probably take even longer to render… 🙂
