  • Is it more efficient to remove unused masks or other elements?

    Hello all

I have a project that I am currently working on and even though everything is going great and I have no problems, I have a question about it.

I have been using the auto trace feature to create “areas” that I am filling with a color. The thing is there are masks that are not being “colored”. These masks are usually surrounding multiple masks that I am coloring.

I am wondering if I should remove the “unused” masks for a more efficient render time. These masks aren’t really being used and they won’t be missed, but if they slow down render time then I would like to remove them. Is there anyone who knows whether or not “unused” items in a comp will impact render times?

Someone else may have more detailed advice, but from what I’ve gathered, if it’s in the timeline, AE has to think about it and keep up with it throughout the entire process from creation to final render. I’m not sure how much those masks will affect the render time, but I always think the more you can get rid of, the better.

thanks for the suggestions, i found another thread that also sheds a little light on another way to be effcient with the layers you use.

so i am now going to go get rid of masks that are redundant, and then trim all the layers i have to be just the right duration for when they are visible in the comps.

this site is so awesome for tips like these. 🙂
