What I was referring to was a real-world effect.
Make up your text characters with sand, salt, sugar, baking soda, whatever, on a black background. (Black foamcore would work, it’s pretty non-reflective and won’t trap particles.)
Aim some canned air, or a hose from a compressor, at the text and blow it away.
Make sure to record it.
Not everything has to be computer-generated.

These techniques will also work in almost any editing program, though some of the terminology may differ.

This is not a Mac – PC issue. Don’t let that distract you.
PPro CS3 has HDV presets. If you are using them, and your original file is not somehow damaged, something else is amiss.
Can you load the original project in which you captured the file? Can you play the file in anything else? (Windows Media Player, VLC, anything?)

Not into CS3. I had many hours of this last year (nightmare project) and had to convert it all, involving lots of rendering.

You build a relationship with a really good VAR who gets you a demo product within a matter of days. We’ve done that on multiple occasions when we needed something quickly. They will demand a demo unit or used unit just so we can do the work and then the one we actually ordered gets here when it does.
And that is a wonderful thing.
There are times when I simply have to deal with places like B&H. The savings can not be bypassed. Still, there are a couple local vendors I maintain good contact with for just that reason. If I order something and need it before it gets there, they’ll help me out.
And when I can, I also send others their way for the same reason.

I really wanted to like the capabilities of this thing. The packaging just put me off enough that I will either work around them (by keyframing larger graphics when needed) or wait for a better implementation from someone else.
It’s like people who write things like they text message. Utterly off-putting, sometimes irretrievably so. Using “u” for “you” and “4” for, well, “for” will make you seem amateurish. Maybe to the point that what you have to say will be obscured.
We’re supposed to be communicators. At the end of a presentation, do you want them saying “Wow – great idea!” or is “Outstanding fonts and moves, dude!” more what you have in mind?

It’s moderately interesting. Unless it’s really high quality and incredibly fast I can’t see using it when I can simply keyframe moves around a larger-than-screensize graphic or set of graphics in an edit.
And frankly, the site design itself is pretty bad. What’s with the low-contrast text-on-page trend lately? Not everyone here is 23 years old. That alone makes me less than enthusiastic.
And does the “rentware” concept mean that presentations will timeout at the end of a subscription year?

Another story I heard today:
Two different times, a client took the “convenient” way out and hired local TV stations for production services. One was a regular commercial station, the other was the local PBS outlet. Both times the stations then went around the intermediate client and made pitches to the end customer.
I hope I’m not the only person who finds this highly unethical.

Seriously, effects get popular and then get over-popular. How many page turns were we subjected to when a simple cut or dissolve would have sufficed? How many two-boxes do we see on the news? How much woozy-cam did we endure in its day? Grainy black-and-white slo-mo? Posterization?
Hopefully, this too will pass.
Damn kids. Get off my lawn!
