    lens blur is a hog. try rendering and purging every few frames (hit SHIFT when accessing the preferences menu and going to last screen – it’s called secret. purge every 3 frames or so.)

    not a answer but a workaround; why not render your all your precomps so you have rendered stills in their scaled down version, then import them into project and ALT click swap them with the precomps.

    if you’re rendering hd regularly, you might want to check out gridiron nucleo pro — cuts down on rendering big time and not terribly expensive

    i just set up a test for this based on the info you’ve provided; and i don’t get any probs with motion blurring my still either precomped or not…

    motion blur does chug through the memory, does your machine chug when you apply it; or is it ignoring it completely?

    how many layers/precomps do you have?

    if you render a still, do you see the motion blur?

    there are times when you wouldn’t want to send it across, but i can’t think of any off the top of my head. more often than not, though, you send it all through…

    you can’t get a zdepth extrude like flint, but there is a plugin Zaxwerks (sp?) that does something of the kind…
