Yeah, and Motions Ram Preview is terrible. Makes the video slower.

Hey Mark why not? I’ve been using those for like a year and I’ve always been getting fast render time and real playback.

Here are some things to speed up your render speed.

Always restart your computer before and after using Motion.
    Reset the N-ram and P-ram
. If you don’t know what that is, look here https://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379. Click on resetting Nram/Pram

    Note:
If you are using video footage, make sure it’s format is compatible with Motion. What I mean by that is that is Motion prefers that format. Try converting your videos to Apple formats, such as Apple Intermediate Codec, or Apple Animation, as they work best with Apple products.

Turn the quality down to draft.
Turn the render quality to quarter.

Try unchecking or checking Dynamic rendering. Sometimes it helps.
You can also uncheck certain things such as Shadows, reflections, and stuff like that.

Note: It will always be slow if you are working in 3D, particle emitters, 3D replicators and the like.

There’s not much you can do to speed up the process, expect for upgrading your computer. Since it’s on and older system, it’s not gonna work as well.

Hopefully somebody else has some more advice. . .

This is really basic but did you export it with the best quality? When exporting, go to the second tab called render and where it says render put it on Best.

Other than that I’m not sure whats going on. Have you any effects added to the video?

Hey, I came up with a good solution. Make your rectangle. Well call this (1) Set the falloff to 1000 (you’ll have to type this in). Then, duplicate the layer (2) and place it under your original rectangle (1). This will be your outline. Set this rectangle (2) to the color you want to be your outline. Then, you will have to increase the X and Y scale parameters of (2) by yourself. Open up the scale drop down arrow, and scale the X to say 101. Then, scale the Y up to about 103 to even it out.

    Any Questions?

You should probably fix the footage instead of trying to fix it in Motion. This would be a bad idea considering the fact that you need to edit in Motion. Get a good converter like MPEG streamclip and fix the footage before Motion.

As to fixing dropped frames I’m not sure where you heard that from. There’s nothing in the manuel about fixing a movies dropped frames.

Yeah thats what I was thinking. In that case, I’ll just freeze the video and make a still of that frame. That should work out OK.

Couldn’t I just make my image an image mask over the grid generator?
