Shooting 30P was discussed, but the client prefers the look of 23.98.

I ran a pulldown test going from 23.98 to 29.97P last night in Final Cut, and seems to work fine, as Rafael suggested. It’s arguably not as smooth as interpolating to 29.97i, but it’s still relatively smooth, and I think the difference is negligible for this project. Final Cut does the pulldown pretty quick, so time spent doing the conversion is minimal.

But I definitely appreciate the opinion!

    Thanks,

Awesome, good info to know! Thanks Rafael!

Brilliant. Very helpful. Thank you both! I am leaning towards the XT. Sure it costs more but pro gear always does.

No kidding? That’s certainly useful information.

Although I just read there’s a 1/8 mini output on the front of the XT which I could split to my mixer. Could that be a viable option?

Reverting to Lion isn’t much of an option for me. Lion came installed on my rMBP, and I don’t have discs. Apple did the upgrade on my machine without my permission when it was in for maintenance, and the hassle of taking it back to have them revert to Lion is a big one, especially when I have projects due. And my Time Machine is now full of Mountain Lion only back-ups. I could do the internet recovery back to Lion but I’m wary of data loss.

Plus it’s only a temporary solution as eventually I’ll be forced to upgrade anyway.

Fortunately the majority of my color correction projects are done at a production facility and not in my home studio, so Resolve isn’t an issue.

Ditto. I can’t edit like this. Nor can I wait for a fix that may never come. Pulling the trigger on an AJA solution right now instead.

  • Ed, I’m having the same problem with my Thunderbolt Intensity Shuttle. Three rounds of updated drivers haven’t solved the issue.

    Great news! Thanks!

Hmmm unfortunately downgrading my OS isn’t a feasible process considering Lion came installed on my system and I don’t have the discs. Why did Apple upgrade me to Mountain Lion without asking?

Guess that T-Tap is looking mighty nice right now…

    Still no solution for this?

My rMPB was just upgraded to Mountain Lion during a service issue and now I can’t even edit properly on FCP7 because of these dropped frames. Clearly it’s a Black Magic Audio issue because playback is suddenly fine when switching to Built-In Output, which of course does me no good.
