CS next is PPro7 in our terms: as in the second coming basically.

It’s minted – almost literally everything that is bugging you right now about PPro 6 goes away.

I think it really is a bit of a larger picture thing? the collaborative abilities afforded to a large to mid size with anywhere are quite savage – like I say – there are some heavy duty places in London with multiple site facilities that have extensively road tested it – they are very, very extremely keen.

Also – it was said that adobe are looking at a long GOP mercury stream implementation – that would take shared footage access all the way to a good DSL.
I get that proxies can be great – but this represents the first time to my knowledge that someone has gotten up to their knees in fundamentally removing the necessity for proxies.

It might be better to look at this as adobe attacking high value big iron solutions by effectively commoditising the parts? – and also solving shared group collaboration at the same time. I don’t work in that scenario, but I have talked to people road testing anywhere – who are in that scenario –
and they sound pretty seriously on board.

between this, CS7 and CC -it’s hard not to see it as adobe attacking the market at almost every level.
They might as well be daubed in scottish blue wode.

nope, but I personally have decided to take the intervening time going a bit headless chicken and freaking out about the dark implications of CC and the end of ownership.

It is a way to pass the four weeks.
We’ve, (well I’ve) been freaking out about editing software for so, so very long now post X, it will be really really strange if it calms down after CS7.
The editor fight or flight instincts are gone berserk at this point.

It’s interesting in a way is that one of its sweet spots is rough first assembly by people other than editors doing footage review.

Given that’s what became X was originally pitched to jobs as – by ubillos when he wanted to put it out as first cut – footage organisation companion for FCP.

Its definitely a valid role.

I am a plumber, I have tools – in my toolbox, these tools directly represent my livelihood.

the idea that my toolset, the entire toolset can vanish at the quirk of a bank transfer, or scandalous charge from the vendor is basically insane.

plumbers do not rent pliers.

let me try this again – there is absolutely no way that I am going to use a toolset as delicate as that. Any software vendor that feels they could force their entire product purchaser base into a perpetual car hire purchase scheme is out of their living minds.

I mean this – they are out of their living minds.

The push back to that effort would beggar the worst PR disasters of recent human memory.

that’s all delicious – and I’m effectively smitten by the cloud, given it costs eight lattes and a few good sandwiches a month in total outlay –

but I still hold to the point that adobe should be really careful – careful not to lose the entire narrative of what is right now about to be the de facto replacement for broad scale editing everywhere and.. anywhere… – boom boom!.

there is plenty of time and space for adobe to present highly valid carrots for subscription based software. Not that anyone thinks they are about to do it –
but. the actual idea that they would be about to push paid editing/everything they sell across all creative disciplines/ right off the psychological client ownership cliff…

that, as they say, is total madness – and would swamp completely the entire PR narrative of what is a creative suite release for the ages.

that said – incredibly unlikely to happen. i just thought I would go headless chicken on a forum.
