no CC for me yet – but 6 can be pretty irritating in the timeline – twitchy tools and tiny dissolve icons and the patching madness, bunch of other stuff – I’ve used it on jobs for getting on for a month in bits and pieces now. It’s also pretty crashy.
Premiere 7 feels like its it tho basically? I’ve had sit ins on it and I really like it – I reckon if you’re sitting on FCP7, it’s pretty much your next.
Because you’re really not going to enjoy avid. The through edit icons are actual fcp photocopies, which isn’t surprising given a lot of the team has come directly from FCP as was. Also the built in loudness kit turns out to be quite a big deal for commercial? As I got explained to me at length.Someone pointed out that the previous patching logic – that an FCP user would find insane, is pretty Avid – adobe dropped it like a rock – adobe are executing pretty much solely for the FCP7 editor. still – if you like FCPX, you’re not going to like premiere anymore than any other tracked editor like FCP or avid.
also – the premiere effects and geometrics keyframing system is easily the best of any edit system out there.
Weird side note – one of the major supposed soon to be local clients for CC is pulling the brakes a bit after getting into the weeds with CC enterprise terms.the whole CC mess is about as opaque as its ever been.

yeah, some of the points people were making above you there were pretty funny. One saying that the ppro interface looked “square” – one thing I’ll give adobe is that their GUI conventions, and app layout customisation are second to none. Also any CC ppro suite you walk into, you just sign in, and it loads all your app specific customisations keyboard shortcuts, screen layouts – that’s quite a nice feature. Some of the implications for the lumetri engine and the LUTs being native to premiere are good too. Also premiere has a genuinely fantastic key framing system. Also the dynamic JKL trimming is very easy to get used to.
It also has a real effects architecture, as opposed to motion templates. unfortunately you have to rent it…Also – The idea that someone would defend the garish, drop shadow heavy non-customisable block interface of X because its “fun” is as odd as it ever was.

oh god yes. Mine was late last minute with the pro tools lady kept to check the output. PPro will actually clean pass through and output a 5.1 though. As ever depends on the sequence setup thing. You can’t monitor it without a track submix for preview mind you. I’m a moron on audio but you can actually get fond of the track mixer apparatus. lots of things going on there?
aside from that tho – the basic inability to set source monitor audio db that carries through onto the timeline? You what?
(you only get a one off +- gain dialogue box thing? Doesn’t carry through? surely not kids.)Or I’m stupid on that. I’m poking at it. Also absolutely no audio source keyframing represented.

apropos of nothing – I had to output a 5.1 mix handed off to me as a pass through with an edit in PPro6 for an E3 game trailer a bit back there.
The degree to which I had no idea what I was doing there in PPro is hard to describe. Still haven’t a clue with half of PPro.

doesn’t that kind of mean they’ve just got an adobe style media encoder going as a separate process?
Isn’t it true you can’t handle any of the encoding media before the encode is finished? As in – there is no invisible swap out of the avchd for pro res as FCPX accomplishes?
Could be completely wrong seeing as I haven’t touched it, but I read a bit on it, that’s what I took away from it?

really? I get its got some deep apple thinking around first apprehension and understanding, that they are exposing the likely connected editing framework to highlight it – god knows they’re the only people who could ever try this for video, but that extreme a response?
Also – aren’t these people maybe going to hit an issue when they approach narrative, doco corpo and the rest of the stuff?
How long are they supposed to hit the market like FCPX lemmings/salmon?Given that the entire ten year FCP shift is now collapsing across the industry – why exactly are entrants with X, however many they might be – how exactly is this supposed to work?
FCP is probably dead this year, possibly drags into the first six months of next year – premiere is literally getting killed by adobe’s defensive move to core app subscription, apple are doing a thing with X of some sort, but the third level feeder colleges aren’t adopting X (are they? please correct me). and that moron software I’m struggling to learn – yes everyone, Avid, maybe with tabs and audio keyframes, is cock-a-hoop.
you know who’s fault this is? Apple’s.
they were thoughtless dicks, they thought they could re-imagine the world, and they made a complete mess of editing for untold numbers of people.they almost shouldn’t be allowed drive. their software license should be taken away. It’s an insane mess.
the only thing they had to do was carefully ease the 40% market egg they were holding into transition, and they would have safeguarded the existing and growing democratisation of editing.
instead they chose to go up their own secondary story software arse.
there is, and never will be a student X wave. – go marvel gag – the only thing of note that is happening right now, is the complete shutdown of the broadly democratising FCP skillset.A retrograde step Apple have personally presided over. they are a house of self involved idiots.
