If you’re using a 2 point camera (that is, a Camera with a point of interest), the Null allows you to make adjustments that effect both, so that the angle of the camera doesn’t change., And there are a lot of other reasons to use Nulls as well. You can use expressions to link the POI to the null, which you may find easier to control as well.

Also, you could use a null to simulate a handheld camera by wiggleing it slightly. Then it feels less mechanical as it moves.

The secret to good smooth camera motion, I find, is few keyframes, and use either Easy ease keyframes or auto bezier keyframes to keep the motion from being jerky. But these are generalizations, and it depends on the situation.

I had a student who showed me some camera work that he had set up, in which he had 12 camera keyframes, and had them ease in and out. And yet, the camera was shaking badly – why? Because those 12 keyframes were all within the space of 1 second! No matter how much you smooth that out – that’s almost 1 camera position for every 2 frames.

So the point is – use Camera Motion Wisely – not frequently. Unless you are doing some wild changes of perspective (and that happens often enough of flashier projects) treat the camera like a real camera. Ask yourself what that would look like if you did it with a real camera.

I record my audio first, and then I use Camtasia to capture the video. It does a good job – I have no complaints.

  • They have proproatary software that does a lot of it for them, however, they still have to do a ton of work.

At this point they arent contemplating selling the software, so for the rest of us, we have to find a different method.

initially, i actually did an auto trace but then decided it just was too difficult to animate with all the extra points. The interim an imation also go treally wonky if I let it go off on it;s own – even with changing the first vertex point.

So the file you finally saw did not use an auto trace.

But if you think it will help- give it a shot. Honestly i did not have much time to tweak it.

not that this is a clean example of anything (It’s UGLY), but this is what I was talking about with the swap out.

I think that can be done with masks on a solid layer and the effect called Stroke (Effect > Generate > Stroke). At some point, you;d need to pull the old switcharoo right when you break it, but the lines can be made with the stroke, and the interior with a solid and a mask (The mask woiuld also be the shape of the stroke).

    So create a solid

put a curcular mask on it

add the strok effect to the mask

animate the mask shape over time (You will need to add points to the mask so you have more control over shape).

When it come time to split it, create a new solid with 2 circular masks that look the same as what you have up until then.

    – That means one outer circle and one smaller inner circle connected to the outer one from the inside (as in the video)

then move the inside circular mask away from the outer circular mask – basically following the animation in that video.

At the swap point, make the original solid with the one mask, invisible. At that point also make the new layer with 32 masks visible.

What I’m talking about is a swap out – Does this make any sense?
