August 21, 2006 at 4:10 am in reply to: Creating Efficient Luminance Mattes in AE?Just want to point out that AE has many of the same color correction tools as photoshop, so if you have a mthjod that uses standard PS plug-ins, you may be able to recreate it eaxctly in AE.
In AE 7 the “Adjust” effects have mostly been moved into a section called “Color Correction”

If you have a picture of a human, then you can emit it from an emitter. It’s all about the particle shape.
Check out the manual (Help files), which covers particle shapes and the requiremants for making them. You have to follow certian rules to make a particle shape work, but all the info is there.
In a nutshell, you design you particle shape, and then go into an emaitter’s properties and change the particle shape fropm the current shape to your shape image.
It;s really simple, but how you make the image, and how big it is, is very important, so read the manual.

If you’re exporting with an alpha, you can only really export the particles from particleIllusion properly. Anything in the BG image won’t be included or it may be added into the alpha slightly but not properly.
So what you should do is make the buzz lightyear kid invisible, and export only the particles with alpha. Then in After Effects add in the particles and Buzzkid seperately, compositing them there.

You;re probably using a an AVI with a codec that pIllusion doesn;t understand.
What codec are you using? How did you make the AVI?

I speak english natively, and half the time i can’t tell if people are kidding me or not. Plus, 90% the time I think I’m funny and I’m not…
Both Justin and Yikes are great members of this forum, and I hope there were no misunderstandings here. You guys rock.

I’m with Steve Roberts.
Besides, if you are calling your company Cop entertianment, then don’t say “His.” It sounds unprofessional because clearly Cop Entertainment is a company of 1 – which is fine, but it sounds really wierd to say that A Company presents “his” reel – without saying who “He” is.

August 20, 2006 at 7:07 pm in reply to: COW Tutorials: After Effects Create 3D ReflectionsExcellent tutorial, Andrew. Nicely done. At first I thought there might be a simple way to include the text in the main comp (instead of precomposing) using the divider, but because it’s using the blurring map, which needs to reside over the text, it doesn’t seem possible.
A really cool tutorial and really useful.
Just a note to anyone curious- Andrew quickly mentions the metal property but doesn’t get too into it… my students often ask me what the 3D material charateristic called “Metal” does exactly. Metal objects in the real world reflect their own color when a white light is cast upon them – so a gold ring for example will reflect gold instead of white. Plastics, on the other hand reflect the light color, not their own – take a green highlighter and put it under a white light – you’ll see that it’s specular highlight is white not green.
Clearly that fish falls somewhere between metal and plastic – And somewhere between “big” and “mother of all creatures big and small!”
