I’m guessing it was mostly or entirely done with 3D animation and motion capture. I don’t think that any of the people were real.

Yes. Use a wiggle expression. However, In order not to mess up the actual animation, you’d probably want to use it in conjunction with Slider controls, as covered in this podcast tutorial:

As a general rule – render straight. However, some prgrams may not like a straight render (I;ve heard this, but necver actually seen this issue) so in that case, you might wnat to try it premultiplied. But like I said, Straight is the way to go.

Absolutely no offense taken.
Please post examples of this (Before and after if possible). I’d love to see it.
Always interested in other ways to achieve an effect. But doing it my way does create opportunities for other looks and feels that you can’t get through most other methods. But that’s only good if you want those looks. And of course the more looks you can achieve (my way, your way, Jim Tierney’s way…etc.) the more options you have.
One thing I did not mention in the tutorial, and that no other solution delivers, is that once you convert your video to cartoon, you can up-rez to Hi-Def sizes with no loss in quality. That’s because the video is converted to vector art.

Thanks. I’ve been hearing this. I find it really funny that in every book I’ve read by the “AE Experts” (And I have about 9 of them) they skip this controller entirely, and yet, I’ve gotten a bunch of emails explaining it to me here since I made the podcast.
It only proves what a great resource the cow is.
I wonder why Adobe designed it not to be pickwhiped?

If you’re looking for something simple and hassle free, then a video editor like Vegas or premiere is going be the way to go. but for true compositing, you want to use a compositing program like After Effects becasue it really gives you the abiity to composite. By that I mean that there’s more to mixing particle effects into your scene then just dropping them on top of the shot, and these sorts of things cannot be done in a video editor.
There are a ton of After Effects tutorials here at the cow to get you started.
