Being that I generally only work in post, I’m not really a filming guy, but I was told by the people at B & H that these lights should be between 3-6 feet away from the subject, depending on the configuration.
Using the umbrellas and tilting the lights up at an angle will reduce the amount of light on your subject, but you want to make sure you have enough light to avoid any video noise that comes from filming in low-light.
Best to speak with the experts at B&H or to someone that has experience with lighting.

Andrew Kramer recommended this one. I purchased it recently to film myself for an upcoming Creative Cow DVD. I didn’t have a Green Screen Background, but it’s a very good lighting kit at a very good price:
The set costs $179 – not including the case.
Here’s the deal though – this is not some pre packaged set. They assemble it from several individual items. When I ordered it, the didn;t have one of the 5″ reflectors, and for an extra 2 bucks they substituted for a 12″.
There was also a deal for the case, but I can’t remember what it was. If you have a problem, call them, and see what they can do for you.

Right. Just a simple hue and saturation effect (Effect > Color Correction> Hue and Saturation)

If you decide to work in AE, you’ll defiantely want to use layer markers for marking off audio events in time. Check out this tutorial:

If they shot it with a bright and strong colored liquid, they could use the effect: Effect > Color Correction > Leave Color.
Basically removing everything but the desired color.
