Wobbly Vector lines – handdrawn effect like Rhubarb
Hi folks,
I have several illustrations I’ve created in Illustrator and have imported into AE which have a hand-drawn look.
The pics are static after they’ve build on, but I want to make the lines move subtly, just as they used to in the kids programme Rhubarb, where the hand-drawn lines would move subtly.
Anyone have an idea of how this can be achieved in AE?

Does that mean you are using an effect like Stroke to draw them on mask/paths imported from Illustrator?
You might want to try either Wave Warp (Wave Height low, maybe 4, and Wave Width 80 or so), or Turbulent Displace (animate the evolution), both are under Distort in AE 6.5.

Above I meant those Distort effects on top or after the stroke.
OK, this is a little more complicated, but you can wiggle a mask’s vertices this way:

So the stroked line, the mask would wiggle, as the mask vertices wiggled. You might want a subtler wiggle, like:
wiggle (0.5, 10)
tweak to taste.

Thanks for this advice – I think I’ll go down the turbulent displace route as I want to preserve the custom strokes I’ve used on the illustration.
