  • you and me both. I was floored when I leaned it. And I was able to bring the technique with me to several studios. It’s a great trick, and can be used with more than just lipsynching. You could even create character positions for simple choppy animation.

Here’s a trick I’ve used successfully in controling safe colors, which may help here…

At the top level of you final comp, create 2 adjustment layers.

#1 -On the 2nd layer (not the top one), applya alevels effect and then apply the following settings:

    In Black: 16
    In White: 235

#2 – On another adjustment layer on top of that, use the same effect with the following settings:

    Out Black: 16
    Out White: 235

You can skip #1 if it looks better – but #2 is crucial to get rid of hot colors. The point of using this is to get rid of hot colors – you will see a difference on the computer screen- things get a bit duller, but you will barely see a difference on the TV, and the untrained eye will not notice a thing.

It’s not ideal, but it does work.

I know that the get color from layer option was used here.

I assume that the logo was masked out with a blocker over time so that it wiped away the logo. The get color and transparecy from layer option are explaned in the help files in depth, but the gist of it is, that you can put an emitter over a BG picture, and have an emitter take it’s color and transparency from that layer – so that particles are only emitted over an area where there is smething in the image.

Elvis has 2 tutorials that cover this tool:

    https://www.creativecow.net/articles/deane_elvis/logoExplode/index.html

    https://www.creativecow.net/cgi-bin/page_wrapper.cgi?forumid=23&page=/articles/deane_elvis/disintegratePeople/index.html

In the case of the logo, I believe, that the stuff that builds the logo was run backwards in an editing program. In other words, i think they animated it off, and ran it backwards.

no idea. There could be a problem with the footage,l or it could be QT 7 – lord knows there are enough issues with QT 7.

But here’s a solution – Have you tried importing the same footage into another program and then exporting it in a nother format (or even as Quicktime) for AE from there? maybe that will solve the prob. AE will dowierd things when it has trouble with acodec. You never know…

No Idea – I don’t know anything about Swish.

However 256 seems a bit low for working with graphics applications, so it may help.

Check to see if it’s turning black or if it’s automatically being keyed out, and that whawt you are seeing is you rempty Black AE background. Either change the BG color, or put a layer behind it ands ee if you can see it.

    If that’s what’s happening – try this:

Make sure that when you import it you tell it that it is not premultiplied with color (AE may automatically be pullng out the green) – choose “Ignore” for the alpha option.

You can also do this by selecting the footage you’ve already imported, and right clicking on it, and choosing Interperate footage from the popup. This brings up the import footage dialog where you can make the same choice.

1- Click on the record button to save your animation as a sequence of images.

    2. In the Save As dialog, name your image sequence and choose PNG as the format, in the “Save As Type pulldown.” Also make sure to chose a location to render to, and hit OK.

December 6, 2005 at 3:39 am in reply to: Path with Particle Illusion

The particles cannot follow a path. Once they are released from the emitter, the move about freely, and can only be indirectly controlled through forces and defelctors.

Emitters (The thing that emits particles can follow a path you create in pIllusion (by setting up position keyframes), by importing a motion path from After Effects clipboard, or by importing a tab delimited text file generated via one of the plug-ins found at wondertouch’s website – usually a 3D programe exporting position keyframes through a plug-in).

In short (sorry for all of that) neither the particles nor the emitter can follow a vector path (such as an illustrator path) at this time.
