as a student you are probably eleigible for academic pricing – this is reduced procing for student use. You might want to email Zaxwerks about that. Most companies offer some kind of discount – often it’s fairly significant.

QT animation compression is a lossless comression format. It’s the main format I use in a production environment – unless we are asked to use proprietary codecs.

So, if you;re worried about quality Loss, ChristopherBook, you will be fine with QT animation compression set to a quality of 100.

Not sure if anyone mentioned GridIron Nucleo in this string, but I purchased that plug-in last week and on my Dual AMD Opteron system, in many cases, it has nearly doubled the speed of renders and ram previews.

Not so much where illustrator art is in the project, but outside that, major improvements.

BTW – for my Money, it’s always going to be AMD over intel. I’ve found over the years that pound for pound they perform better. I have an intel machine with a “comperable” processor and parts, and it’s not nearly the performer of my AMD based system.

yes, but dragging is much better if you don’t know what frame you want, becasue you can watch the frames pass by until you find the right one. I use both methods A LOT.

[Steve Roberts] “But if you think of time remapping as controlling the frame that you see at a specific point in the comp, you may be on your way to taming TR.”

Yeah, think of each frame having a number assigned to it, and that by typing in a number into the Time Remap property, you are calling up the frame with that number. So if you were working with footage at 30 FPS in a 30 FPS comp – and you have a Keyframe for Frame # 1, and then 10 frames later you have a keyframe for frame # 100, then your footage will play 10 times faster than normal – to fit 100 frames of video in 10 frames of time.

Man, I would love to see how this turns out. I did a tutorial on my DVD on creating High-Speed FX that can be slowed down and time remapped in AE for variable speed FX, but I’ve barely had the opportunity to work with footage shot at such a high speed.

    Sounds really cool. Good luck.

May 21, 2006 at 10:25 pm in reply to: Looping compositions?

    Create your 2 second comp.

Nest that comp into a 10 second comp.

In the main (10 sec.) comp, select your nested comp, and then Enable Time remapping on the layer –
in AE 6.5 it’s: Layer > Enable Time Remapping. In AE 7 it’s: Layer > Time > Enable Time remapping

2 keyframes are created. Go to the last(second) keyframe, and then move one frame back. Use the create keyframe button to add a new keyframe – you will have 2 keyframes right next to eachother in the timline. Delete the last (now the 3rd) Time Remap Keyframe.

Lengthen the layer to the full length of the comp (10 seconds).

Alt click on the time remap keyframe stop watch and add the expression:

    loopOut(type=”cycle”)

It should now be looping over and over.
