It might sound stupid but sometimes little things slip the eyes.

Do you have the sound icon enabled on the ram preview tab?

I made a test here and even with it disabled you get sound when scrubing.

Just a shot in the dark.

How about:

create a solid

then:

effect > text > numbers

set decimals to 0 and set two keyframes one for Value property. One for #1 and the other to #98.

I really thought I saw something like text2layers one day. But I guess it was a dream. There´s the create 3D text but I don´t know if it could help you.

This other one breaks the paragraphs into layers. But again I don´t really know if it would help you. Just another shot.

Those are scripts not straight expressions but they can do what some expressions can´t.

Well I don´t know why but evereything seems to be here. I´m running master collection CS4. And the only plugins I have installed besides the ones that come with AE are some trapcode’s, droste and Maltaannon’s bitweiser.

Maybe someone else doesn´t have it as well.
