I’ve tweaked it and the only error I’m getting at the moment is that the tc variable is NaN, because of course it is in HH:MM:SS:FF. So need to do a timestamp to frames conversion before calling it.

Hi Jack,
A couple of things come to mind. Firstly, how big are the photos themselves? If these are a raw dump out of a camera, you might find it easier to batch resize them in photoshop till they’re closer to the size of your comp. Secondly, I’m assuming the photos are all 3D objects within AE. I believe (I might be mistaken), that AE’s renderer accounts for them even if they’re not within your frame, and this might be adding render time. Trimming the layers, so that they’re only as long as they are in your shot should help.
Also, on the back end side of things, try clearing up your cache, ensure enough memory is available to AE, and turn off memory intensive programs (anti virus springs to mind).

Woops, sorry I meant Quicktime with Animation Codec. Walter’s suggestion for ProRes probably a better one though if you’re cutting in FCP.
Your sequence settings should be the same as the footage the sequence contains for best results. ProRes is a good format to have your masters in. All of our FCP cut masters in our suite are stored as ProRes 422 HQ.

Have you taken a look at the rotoscoped layer to ensure that it has properly painted your foreground on every frame. I find with the rotobrush there are times when it be fine one frame, but the next frame it well select your entire plate and basically forces you to repaint over your foreground.
My suggestion would be to ram preview the layer with the rotobrush and see if it properly rotoscoped through the entire sequence.

PNG Sequence with Animation Codec should be fine.
Premultiplied if you’re not going to be relaying your image sequences on top of other backgrounds in FCP7.
Generally leave Legacy Gamma Adjustments off. Should give you a fine render.
Export from FCP at sequence settings. Use MPEG Streamclip or other compression program to change into file type of choice.

Have you checked your animation curves to see if something weird is going on there? Perhaps a bezier curve where you want a straight one?

Yeah, that’s what we are about to do now and see if the issue is with what’s happening on set rather than in the suite. Also we’ve got Aja Kona 3’s in the edit suites, so might have to take a look and see if they have the ProRes sequence settings.
