Do you have Thinking Particles? If so use that instead of the standard emitter. Otherwise you can use multiple standard emitters. You can keyframe which emitter the shader will use in the ripple shader properties. Just KF the first one, move to your selected frame, drag the second emitter in the link box, and keyframe again.

  • Okay, figured out the problem. The points are not welded. If you select the object and run the optimize command it works fine.

Best way would probably be to select all polygons and then run the extrude command with the caps option enabled.

  • Are you trying to have the particles fly around inside the letters?

Can’t see an image if you tried to post one.

  • Sculpting subdivision is just like Subdivision Surface modeling. You can prevent … or minimize at least … the smoothing by adding some edge loops close to the edges you want to be sharp. Or, since you’re going to have a high poly object anyway for sculpting, you could use the regular subdivide command before sculpting.

  • Couple problems with your file. First, all of the polygons are selected in your poly selection tag. Second, you have the emitter set to emit from object volume and it needs to be set to polygon center or polygon area in order for the poly selection tag to be taken into account.

  • If you make the text editable you can restrict x-particles to polygon selections.

If you don’t want to make it editable you could use a kill modifier to take out the hole particles.

Yes, with a few exceptions. For example, you can cache shadow maps and ambient occlusion for non-animated objects.

Try the optimize command under the Mesh>Commands menu. It will well all points within a specified tolerance. I think default is .01 units but you can change that by clicking on the little cog wheel to the right of the command name.
