Yep, the bug is fixed in R11.

Rendering is much faster in R11 as well: I’d guesstimate 10-40% on regular scenes and substantially better than that with GI scenes.

While it’s not free by any means, Syntheyes packs a hell of a punch for $399. Before they broke the price barrier you’d have had to pay over $2,000 for the same functionality.

Would have been a pretty devious ploy if it was spam. 🙂

FWIW, Render King is another good service. No connection.

Oops, sorry Lennart. In any case, the plugin is well worth the money.

There is a free version of Steadycam Pro — check around on the site. I actually bought that version but he started giving it away when he wrote one that’s a little more advanced. The (now)
free one is plenty good enough for my needs — great plugin.

Scene Motion blur is the most reliable and has the best quality. The default settings are pretty good. Unfortunately it’s also the slowest by far, but you can minimize that somewhat by reducing or turning off anti-aliasing. If it’s still too slow you can reduce the steps from 16 to 9. Five may be too few.

Object motion blur doesn’t work with camera animation, and I don’t *think* VMB does either, but I could be wrong about that.

Yep, you need to create the videos as textures and apply them to planes.

Danel is a good place to start, or the Lumas shader in a regular material’s color or luminance channel. But I think that reflections are a big part of the iPod material’s look, so I would also play around with reflection planes or try to find an HDR of a studio lighting setup for use in the environment channel.

The easiest way to deal with it is to nest the object inside of two nulls: one at the tip and one at the base. Then animate the nulls instead of the object. So the heirarchy could be:

    TipNull
    —-BaseNull
    ———Obect

Personally I would use the illustrator spline with a wrap deformer in “spherical” mode, along with an extrudeNURBS. The key there would be to select Type>Quadrangles in the extrude caps properties, and check the “regular grid” box. Then adjust the width of the grid to minimize and hopefully eliminate artifacts. You’d also probably want to set the .ai spline’s type to “subdivided”.
