August 22, 2013 at 9:13 pm in reply to: [C4D r14] Camera and target orientation with NullNo, in the video the null does not rotate with the camera, or vice versa. The two objects just happen to be pointing in roughly the same direction when they are created.
You can tell they aren’t rotating together when he moves the target null around.

August 22, 2013 at 6:20 pm in reply to: [C4D r14] Camera and target orientation with NullIf you want the camera’s focal point (or the top, as you describe it) to match the target null, click on the camera and in its attributes (object tab), check the “use target object” box.
If you want the target null to face the camera, give it a target tag and drag the camera into the target object box. But I’m not really sure why you’d want to do that as the rotation of the target null doesn’t affect the camera.

Not an excuse, but Xrefs are relatively new to Cinema and they obviously need more work.
That said … have you read the help file on this topic? Exchange switches out references for reference proxies if you’ve assigned them (you have to be using encapsulated xrefs for this to work). The check boxes in the manager load an unload xrefs or selected parts of them. Seems to work differently depending on whether you’re using encapsulated or not.

What version of C4D are you using? I’m on R14 and have no problem updating Xrefs unless the reference file is on an SSD.
-
Is the model you’re referencing located on an SSD drive? I’ve found that Xrefs are definitely wonky when the referenced file is saved on an SSD. If possible try moving the file to a mechanical HD.

August 20, 2013 at 8:19 pm in reply to: geometry fails to update until frame changeI think the problem is that the loft nurbs is evaluating before the Tracer objects. You can see it if you turn off the loft, as the tracers actually move as expected.
The easy workaround is to simply press play in the time slider so it’s running as you move the pieces around. Not so great if you’re keyframing, though. 🙂
Another workaround is to pull the tracers out of the loft object and replace them with two mosplines that reference the tracer splines.

August 20, 2013 at 8:03 pm in reply to: Problem with rigid body and collider body tagsSet the null’s collider body tag to Collision>Inherit Tag>Apply Tag to Children. Also set the shape to static mesh if you haven’t already.

R14 has a texture slot in the specular channel. With prior versions you would put the texture in the Specular Color channel.

The display filter works here, with R14. Are you sure you’re using the display filter and not the selection filter, which is the icon with the cursor and the question mark? The display filter icon is to its right (with the grid and question mark).
If you just want to turn off the cone but leave the light visible (the asterisk thingy) you can go into the lights’ properties, in the general tab, and uncheck “show illumination”.

Put a “stick texture” tag on your object. Seems to be required in R14 if you are using flat projection.
