Dan, i can’t comment on the Adams – but i have read excellent reviews. I just didn’t follow up because the price was more than our budget. Ain’t that always the case?

As for Gene’s…the 1029’s i could live with if i had to…but the 8040’s were about the worst sounding monitor i have ever tested! I could not believe how muffled, boomy and distorted they sounded – none of us could quite believe what we were hearing when we did a direct comparison with 1029’s and the PMC’s.

I haven’t heard the Tapco’s in comparison with other Mackies – i bought mine for home use but was pleasantly surprised by the translation from home mix to playback elsewhere.

There are plenty of people who recommend the JBL speakers on the Protools post forum…but as you say horses for courses!

I used to use Genelec 1029’s – good but after awhile they tend to cause listener fatigue. I found the sound rather forced and not really accurate. I tested various other models and eventually went with PMC DB1SA nearfield monitors (with built-in Flying Mole Digital Amps). spot on advice…I knew i had seen that dialog box once before but could not remember where or what it was called. It seems my settings had a rogue +1 frame in the playout offsets. Now it don’t, and it works correctly.

i have been using the Kona Control Panel (its very self explanatory, and i have read the manual as well), and i have been using the easy setups. I realise i need to get used to the hundreds of options, but i’ve been editing for two decades, so i am not too worried about that. My main worry is that according to the Kona manual the video card should be grabbed by which ever quicktime application is running at the time. On my system this does not happen.
I cannot get motion or shake or quicktime to utilize the kona, and hence none of those applications appear on my broadcast monitor.

The 2 reasons i haven’t used the digibeta through it yet are that i don’t actually have any digibeta footage in the office yet (!) and the sync that is in at present (until the S&W is delivered) is not putting out a stable signal so is causing some glitching.

As for the high end sync – well its bought and paid for! I had the chance to kit out a completely new editing and mixing suite, and as it wasn’t my money we bought well to futureproof us as best we could.

Have you any tips for ensuring the card is behaving correctly (ie working with other software)?

i think that all depends on whether you are using Pal or NTSC. It simply means Standard Definition, as opposed to High definition (HD).

thanks for the reply….unfortunately i am at the complete novice stage, and have never had to use expressions before, so i don’t really understand what you are saying!!

i have highlighted a rotation tab, then used the add expression command. Thats as far as i got – i tried adding an expression just as you had written but it was rejected with the error message – bad argument: index 2 out of range for stream of dimension 1……would you mind explaining a little more fully what you mean?
