    does it really matter?

and looking at the specs it looks like the pc has higher spec for each component so i’d be surprised if it wasn’t faster.

thanks morgan – i see where you are going with this.

Wouldn’t doing that put all the words on top of each other? Doesn’t deleting all the other words put the remaining word back to the start of the paragraph?

are you asking if FCP will automatically edit your film for you?
    really?

How on earth do you expect it to make all the creative decisions that go into making an edit? Thats why good editors get well paid!!

There are some packages that will split a file into individual scenes, which they do by looking for big changes of information on between consecutive frames. The one i have seen is called CatDV. And its good too, but it doesn’t edit the material for you.

However, you would be much better off doing Log & Capture ie. watching the rushes and select the takes you need. It might be a ball ache but its the best way to actually know what material you actually have to edit with!

June 4, 2008 at 10:38 am in reply to: 8 core crashing at end of any and all renders

interesting…i’m using CS3 with QT 7.4.5 on a Quad G5 and 10.4.11 – and i’m seeing a very similar problem. I can render and length of sequence, but AE hangs on the final frame and needs to be Force Quit.

I am trying to render out a small 2 sec logo which is made up purely from photoshop layers, no audio at all. I’m rendering it as lossless with alpha at 25fps sd pal resolution.

The weird thing is that whilst i don’t have a Motu 828 connected ( i do have Digidesign 002R and Motu Digital Timepiece), and i’m not using audio on this sequence. When i checked Activity Monitor after the last freeze, one of the process that was not responding was the CoreAudio !!

Time for some more tests i think….

i was humming a melody the other day, and wondered if there was some software that will take my little melody and with a press of a button give me a fully composed, recorded and mixed number 1 hit single?

    No?

    Oh well…back to the manual.

    UPDATE>>>>>

it seems the solution i put forward yesterday is not a solution after all. My mac has just restarted having the same problem with FCP. Namely, when using the Edit to Tape function the software freezes. Force Quit does not quit it properly and FCP refuses to reload (even though its icon continues to display the triangular marker underneath on the dock).

    spooky!!

my system started doing very similar things yesterday. Throughout the day it got worse, culminating in several kernel panics, and not being able to get all the way through startup before the system crashed.

Applecare proved invaluable, and after a couple of procedures the mac is back to perfect health.

First suggestion was to reset the PMU. To do this restart the mac by pressing the power button and then keeping it pressed until you hear a second set of chimes. This didn’t work on my mac so the second suggestion was a PRAM reset.

This is done by hitting the power button, then immediately after hearing the chime press and hold apple, alt, P, R until you hear the mac restart again. This took a minute or two to happen…just keep holding!

That was all it took to reset my system back to normal.

I can’t say it will cure your problem, but you never know!

Rafaels right – i figured this out last week as i needed exactly the same output.

Simply put a channel mixer on a dupe of the clip, set all the rgb digits to 0 and the alpha digits to 1. There is an alpha option in each of the rgb sections in this plug.
