I got into the scopes yesterday and found them archaic. I spent a good amount of time trying to do the same thing, to no avail. Asking around and I came to the conclusion that the scopes can not be changed or altered.

Only tip I found was to run the scopes on a Reference Window, but there is no realtime scopes during playback.
Best thing I have been told is to make a feature request.

I am looping my SDI out through my monitor and into my capture bay mac with the BlackMagic PCI UltraScope, and mirroring that video back to my edit bay on the iPad. A stand alone scope would be cheaper (or not), but the capture bay runs all the time, and the scopes take no power to run. Other benifits are that I get scopes in Photoshop, and AE.

I have been doing this setup in FCP for a year now, so it’s just works for me. But, I would love to have better scopes in the application too.

I too have had this issue. You only need to change the extension from .mov to .mpg and then use the .mpg files natively with all cpus, in all Adobe applications. The problem is with “Adobe QT 32 Server” only using one CPU, and the network buffer not moving data fast enough.
You can do this in batch with Bridge.
Quicktime has no problem reading the changed “.mpg” files natively as well, so there is no reason to keep a copy of the “mov” files.

    Systems tested on:
    MBP i7 quad 2.3 8GB ram SSD. OS10.6.8 and WIN7ult
    MP Octo 2.66 24GB ram Raid. OS10.6.8
    MP Duodecimus (12) core 2.93 96GB ram Raid. OS10.6.8 and WIN7ult

  • I’m seeing the same problem on a sample project. Premiere works fine at 5760×1080 but output is a problem. Might I recommend a quarter res output? 2880 x540 and just double it on playback? Most (better than 95%) can’t tell the difference in scaled vs full video, and the system load will be 25% of the full res. Going though all the codecs I know, I do not know a one, besides uncompressed will do better than 4K res, and Uncompressed is going to take a huge RAID.
    Looking around…
    Theora

Has a max resolution of 1Mx1M and might just do what you are looking for, but I have no experience beyond 4k.
