So is this safe to do? Would it be wise to back everything on the drive up or would that not be needed?

Brilliant, thanks Walter your solution worked a dream. I rendered to a different drive which was NTFC. Thanks for your helpfull advice Dave too.

    Now to reformatting my drive.

As you can see on the screen grab there are two visible layers, the first is an uncompressed mov, and the second is a tiff seq so no compression there. Could you advise me atall on any settings you would tweak in the memory prefs?

  • 500 responses and not one was decent… wow, you were either seriously unlucky or you are one tough guy to please! My hope is the latter and would like to put myself in the firing line. Can I get your opinion on my reel. I dont think im any AE master yet but would simply like to see how i stack up against what you have seen.

March 2, 2009 at 2:19 pm in reply to: Linking a camera to null

It is possible to link the psunami’s camera to the comp camera via expressions, but the thing is i am using a setting in psunami called ‘bobbing platform’ which animates the view according to the surface of the water, as if you were looking through a camera on a tripod on the deck of a boat. No data is created as to the position or rotation of the camera.

I could possibly animate an AE camera to match as closely as possible the movement created by the psunami plugin, and use that. I just wondered if it was something that i can do with expressions.

    Thanks for the suggestion though

Thanks for that Brian, the depth map feature is still there, that works nicely. Fantastic work on the plug in by the way, very powerful tool. Its people like you which make us AE monkeys look like we know what we’re doing!

    Thanks again

    Dylan,

Im assuming you are working at 25 frames per second for this, if not try this but use numbers which apply to you.

So make your comp 99fps (which is the max after effects will allow) in your comp settings then in your time controls change the skip dropdown to 3. This means your comp will still play 25fps but AE will compute three extra frames between each one which plays, this gives you the in between curve i think you are after.

In fact, perhaps a simpler and more flexible work around would be to slow your footage down, animate your movement with your particles set to animate very slow, like you were watching them in slow mo. Render out an uncompressed of just your particles. Import the render back in to AE and speed it back up to fit the footage playing at full speed. This is much more flexible because you can slow your footage as much as you want to give you more in between frames.

Good luck, hope that works out for you.

Iv tried experimenting with the focal length and 35 does seem to be closest but the image is still distorted.

The image is squashed, so it looks fatter and shorter than the path. Any other ideas?

    Thanks for the help,
    Adam
