I am currently working on a project using Red Giants Psunami plugin. Am i right in thinking the plugin allows depth of field? From the documentation and pictures on the Red Giant website it looks as if it is possible. Does anyone have any ideas on how to create it? I have searched the plugin for the settings and the internet for any info or tutorials with no luck.

    Any help would be appreciated

    Thanks
    Adam

    Hi Adam,
I designed Psunami many years ago, and as I recall it did not have depth of field built into its camera. It did, however, have the ability to render a gray scale depth map, and it is likely that any rendered depth blur in demo movies was accomplished with the use of a compound blur effect, accessing the depth map to control the blur. I assume the depth map feature is still in there, but I don’t have a working copy of the filter handy to check it for you.
If you find the depth map feature and you need help with compound blur, let me know!

Thanks for that Brian, the depth map feature is still there, that works nicely. Fantastic work on the plug in by the way, very powerful tool. Its people like you which make us AE monkeys look like we know what we’re doing!

    Thanks again

Thanks! I’m just gratified that people are still using the tools ten years after we created them.

Can’t think of a better one to use haha. Doesn’t matter how much time passes as long as it still works 🙂

Of course, Psunami is great. I think of “you guys” every time I see the opening title for ABC’s Revenge. On a side note, I still think your tutorial on creating faux 3D surfaces with 2D layers and blend modes, is one of the best tutorials in AE history! …now, where did I put those MRI scans. 🙂

The sliced-up-dead-guy demo! Yeah, that was a fun one. Good times.
