I’ve been having the same issues. I followed Alex’s directions and it didn’t work. I called Adobe support and got something similar but this did the trick.

In the finder menu click and hold on the GO menu. Hold the option button and the User library will show up. Click the User Library.
In that folder go to preferences and find the adobe folder.
Right click on adobe folder and click get info.
In the Sharing & Permissions section there should be three names.
All should say Read & Write next to them.
Unlock the lock, switch them all to read and write.
Then click on the little gear directly under the names or to to the left of the lock and in the pulldown click on “apply to enclosed items.
    Then lock the lock again.

Now go to your OS Hardrive and click on Users, your user name, Documents.
    Find the adobe folder there.
Right click on adobe folder and click get info.
In the Sharing & Permissions section there should be three names.

Then click on the little gear directly under the names or to to the left of the lock and in the pulldown click on “apply to enclosed items.
    The lock the lock again.

Wait 1 minute. Then launch Premiere.
    This fixed it for me.

There is a workaround for this issue. You can monitor the audio in QT Player, while at the same time use the Voice Over Tool in FCP. Open QT Player. Go to the Preferences under QT Player, and click on Recording. Switch the Microphone to the same source as you Voice Over Tool. Open a new audio record and turn the sound up till you hear it on the bottom left of the window. Then go back to FCP and use the voice over tool as usual. You should be able to record as normal but now you are monitoring the sound through QT Player. For Nar or voice over tracks, I like to create a new seq, put some slug an hour into the seq, set my in and out points from 0 to an hour, and use the M key to add markers to the timeline while the track is coming in for a better workflow.

April 27, 2006 at 6:02 pm in reply to: HVX200 P2 vs Firestore or Citidisk at 720p 24

    “whats wrong with P2 cards?”

Well where to start. 1 8 gb P2 card costs $1400 from B&H and holds 20 minutes of 720p 24 fps according to your last post. 1 Citidisk HD 120 gb is $1200 and holds a little more than 1 hour of 720p 59.94. Thats three times as much storage for less money. The Firestore which is endoresed by panasonic costs $1999 and says will record 1.5 hours of DVCPRO HD.

If you are shooting a 10 minute interview, the P2 cards are fine but for a 3 to 4 hour concert or Ceremony they make very little sense. You would need to have more than one and keep switching and dumping.

Why do these Hard Drive recorders capture footage like the Varicam? There are no tapes involved. Is it because of the firewire? Have you used any of them and seen first hand?

    Thanks,

Thanks. I figured that Firewire was the way to go but I just like to psych myself out.

Graeme is right. Decklink HD Pro does not have PCIe connectivity yet. The Decklink Extreme does have PCIe compatibilty but it is Standard Def not High Def. I will either have to wait for Decklink to upgrade their HD cards to PCIe or go with the Kona. Looks like I’m going with the Kona.

    |But we will be onlining uncompressed 10-bit HD out to D5, as that is the requirements for delivery. Onlining isn’t the right word…upconverting. No recapture, just uprezzing, as there really is no difference if we upconvert and render with the Kona card and if we re-capture SDI, and I’d rather upconvert…saves time and also avoids any re-capture issues.|

I’m just a little confused about this process. You are just creating a 10-bit HD sequence, rendering with the Kona card and outputting to D5? Or is there something else you need to do?
