I’ve had this problem and had some success in resolving it. I had XDCAM-EX footage, a 4 hour clip to be exact. The file structure is so that the clip is split up every 4gb into separate files. I made the offending file offline, and then used the ‘link media’ option to link it to one of the other files that makes up the 4 hour clip. This worked for me. I think maybe even just making the file offline and then linking it back to itself may work.

I wish I could tell you that he’d kept the original footage but I can’t. Very frustrating. Needless to say I’ll be putting myself forwards for the next job involving XDCAM footage.

So far I’ve encoded some Avid DNxHD files, and they seem to work on the Avid Xpress Pro that I have access to, although it asks me to convert them to either a file with audio and video or a matte file. I’d still be sleeping easier if I knew it worked on our clients Avid.

I’ve also tried converting the files back to XDCAM, and this has also had some success so far. However, FCP will only let me export to 1080p, and since our clients are using slow motion their project is 720p on Avid. Again, the files seem to work in Xpress pro, but it might not go down that well if I give them footage that’s a different resolution than it’s supposed to be.

I found it strange FCP wouldn’t allow a 720p export. Do you think I’ll be ok with the DNxHD footage?

    Thanks for replying.
