I know it’s been a while, so I hope you get this. I just remembered something else important from that Knowledge Base Document I linked to earlier:

“As of this writing, there is an issue where Chapter Marks from the program will not appear in Compressor if you have not set a Chapter Mark on the first frame of the program in Media 100 i.”

My memory is that you don’t have to USE the chapter mark on the first frame when you get to your authoring application, it just has to be there so that all the other ones show up.

    Hope this helps.

  • Hmmm…bummer. 3 years sounds like a short run for an M100 board. Of course, we’re just talking about the DV option, not the whole thing right?

You may also have to be sure to add Compression marks at the same timecode as each Chapter mark (in M100i, that is). I know this is the case under OSX when going to DVDSP.

Take a look at this KB Doc from M100’s Support Site:
    https://support.media100.com/kbsearch/kbDocument.aspx?id=299
It’s specifically about OSX stuff, but some of the tips (like the above mentioned Compression marks thing) may be helpful.

  • I don’t get it.

How old is this board? It sounds like it’s worked for a long time for you.

If you’re any good, you’ve probably made a lot of money with it. If I had an experience like that with a product, I’d buy another one.

(BTW – name another computer peripheral, in any category, that’s still relevant 5 or more years after it was introduced)

Given the timecode numbers you’ve stated, it appears your using PAL.

What are the other particulars? SD or HD timeline? What’s the deck you’re using? Does it happen with more than one deck?

  • Two ideas:

1 – is the Edit Suite window open? If not, the Export from Edit Suite… choice will be greyed out in the File menu
    and
B – is the Edit Suite in Program mode?

    oh, wait a minute…THREE ideas!
Quit messing around with it and simply copy and paste the range you need into another program. Export from there and get your work done, then you can go back and figure out what when wrong (if you still care).

If the stuff you’re doing isn’t too complicated or too long, you’d be suprised with what iDVD can do.
    or
How about installing your one seat of DVDSP on another G5 system without M100 in it at all? With a Gigabit Ethernet Switch you could transfer exported Self-Contained Programs to it very quickly and author DVDs without tying up any of your M100 edit systems.

    Mike,

Lukkee may be on the right track. Especially if this is a rented deck, it may be set up slightly different from one you’ve used in the past.

Hook up the “super” out from the back of the deck so you can see the menu on your monitor and troll through the menu looking for anything that sounds like it might apply to your situation. Don’t forget to “save” or “set” any changes made. (sorry, not if front of one of the decks right now, so I’m not sure of the exact terminology). Try one thing at a time to see if it does the trick and undo any changes that don’t help.

Let us know if you find it.

  • When this crash happens do you get an empty “error” box?

If so, try moving the source files for your audio media from whatever external drive you’ve got it on to your internal drive instead. It’s probably best to do this when M100 is NOT running and be sure to delete the files from their original location after you’ve moved them. Then, launch your program back up, let the media search find the new loacation of the files, and try the export again. Assuming you’re seeing what I think you’re seeing, the export should work now.

If this works, you will likely find that you need to keep sending all your audio media there from now on. Once this problem rears it’s head, only a complete system reinstall seems to make it go away.
