December 4, 2006 at 3:26 pm in reply to: Rendering Red 4 inside Media 100HDJust not happening for me. Maybe I’m not doing it the same way as you. Can you be more specific about your steps?
Also, what “point-version” of Red do you have? Get Info on the filter in MacHD/Applications/Media 100 Folder/Filters.

One test I can think of to narrow down exactly where the problem is happening is to try importing some sort of test image.
Importing will let you by-pass your deck(s) and cabling along with the Junction Box and some of the circuitry on the board, eliminating them as variables.A search for “ntsc test” at https://images.google.com yields all sorts of fun stuff to play with.
If these images come out okay, then at least you know you don’t have some base-level problem with system output.

Sadly…no.
I’ve been asking for this feature since 1998.
The kludgy workaround I have adopted is to Master to Beta while simultaneously making a copy off the back of the Beta deck via the Super-Out.

August 7, 2006 at 7:21 pm in reply to: changing input standards on digitized footagePardon my French but…
HOLY CRAP DUDE!!!!!! You’ve got some time on you hands!***
While the Boris method will certainly work to create a letterboxed output of 16:9 footage, there are a few of other ways that should work with both new and “old” software.
CREATE A COPY OF YOUR ORIGINAL TIMELINE
If you’ve only just digitized the clips and haven’t begun editing, you could…
A:
– Put the offending clips in a timeline, cuts-only, nothing fancy
– From the “File” menu, choose “Print to EDL”
– Choose CMX 3600 (it’s the one I’ve always used, and it works for me)
– Uncheck everything you possibly can (you might want to keep the clip names though), EDL is an archaic format that predates the existence of Non-Linear Editing. The simpler you keep it, the more likely you will be successful.
– Go ahead and “Print” that EDL. (Why the heck does it say “Print” anyway? That’s always bugged me)
– Make sure to pay attention to where you “print” it to, so you can find it again.
– Now, ensure your Hardware Settings are correct, don’t forget the audio. (btw…no, Media 100 doesn’t change them automatically, unless you delete your Preferences)
– From the “File” Menu, choose “Import…” and navigate to the EDL.
– The EDL will come in as a timeline with the current media settings.
– Now you can Batch Digitize the new timeline.
– This method has never screwed up for me, but it’s best for unedited footage due to the inherent limitations of EDL.…or, if you’ve already edited the clips, you could…
B:
– CREATE A COPY OF YOUR ORIGINAL TIMELINE
– Change your Hardware Settings to the way you want them to be.
– Select all the clips in your timeline.
– While holding down Shift+Control+Option+Command, go to the “Media” menu and choose “Batch Re-Digitize Selected”.
– Keep holding all 4 keys down until you see the messages stating that you’ve chosen to force redigitize at the current hardware settings.
– This will let you batch re-digitize at the new hardware settings.
– I should warn you that I have (once or twice in 6 years) had trouble with this method, ending up with clips of BOTH formats in the same timeline resulting in a totally corrupted and unusable timeline. Again, ALWAYS work from a copy of your original timeline. This way, if it does screw up, you can toss it and the media it created then try again.finally, if you haven’t got too many clips or simply cannot redigitize for whatever reason, you could…
3:
– Export the 640 clips to “some other codec” so that they loose whatever M100 tags they have on them, I would use Animation
– Set your Hardware Settings the way they need to be
– Import the clips
– they SHOULD come in under the new hardware settingsDepending upon the number of clips you have and how far you’ve gone with them, one of these options or a combination ought to do it for you.
***I’m kidding, please take no offense. Have a nice day. Peace, Love and Flowers.

June 30, 2006 at 4:54 pm in reply to: buying new media 100 hd version 11 or FCP?My guess is that Rob’s omission of an answer to Kieran’s question about the board HD Suite runs on was intentional.
Most OEM agreements require companies to be vague at best about exactly what equipment they are using.I took a look around AJA’s site and found this:
https://www.aja.com/html/products_oem.html
and this:
https://www.aja.com/pdf/AJA_OEM_linecard.pdfThe chart in the PDF shows that there are only 3 PCIe capable boards:
OEM-LS (e), OEM-2K (e) and OEM-LH (e)I’m guessing that the LS (e) and the LH (e) are the boards that M100 uses for SDe and HDe respectively. This only leaves the 2K (e) as the board for HD Suite. Which makes sense ’cause it’s the only board they make that does the up-convert that Rob mentions.
So then, the next question on my mind (and I imagine a few others as well) is how do these compare to the Kona-branded boards?
From what I can see here:
https://www.aja.com/html/products_macintosh_kona.html
They appear to be the same.I guess we’ll just have to wait for someone with both a Kona board AND an OEM board side by side to be absolutely sure.

Exactly! Thanks Floh, I was trying to point out that the Project is where media linking information is stored. I may not have been clear enough.

June 29, 2006 at 3:21 pm in reply to: Control track breaks while digitizingNope, it just doesn’t work that way.
Trust me, I’ve “been there, done that” too many times. The only workable way (for both technical and sanity reasons) to digitize tapes like that is to dub them and work from the dubs.

June 29, 2006 at 3:18 pm in reply to: Ramp audio clips script – adapt to work for Range onlyThis certainly isn’t what a Software Engineer would call an “elegant” workflow but…
You could copy and paste (or drag and drop) all the clips in your range to a new timeline, run the script there, then bring them back to the original timeline.

Not sure if you’ve tried this, but…
Create a new Project and bring one of the “problem” Bins/Programs into it and see what it does. If it links up, bring everything into the new Project and work from there. Just delete the “bad” Project.
I stopped backing up Projects a long time ago for this very reason. When you think about it, the Project is completely replacable as it doesn’t actually “contain” anything, it only points to the Bins and Programs that you tell it to.

Wayne,
Did you try benchmarking the drives in each configuration?
Was one “fix” was better than the other?
