Digital Rebellion’s Pro Media Tools includes an app called Render Watcher that will show up as an OSX notification that can be adjusted in the system preferences. So it shows a notification and plays an alert sound.

I use Compressor all the time. Because in my job I need the flexibility and ability to render lots of files. Some advantages Compressor has:

  • Prioritization of batches
  • Customization of the output of just about any format
  • Pause renders
  • Resume of renders after a restart
  • Multi-file (or segment) rendering depending on the amount of your systems ram and processor cores.
  • From my understanding and use of Compressor it is mainly CPU, unless rendering was sent directly from FCPX, then it can be GPU if set correctly in preferences. There are some limitations of sending from FCPX. One being no distributed rendering.

  • I’ve done this the same way, using a DV camera to pass through the analogue from the composite connection.

I had issues capturing DV with FCPX. I used iMovie and it worked way better.

As for the speed and skipping issues, you may want to try fast-forwarding the tape, then rewinding it. Maybe since they’ve been sitting the tape is kinda stuck together.

May want to try a camera cleaner tape.

I’ve also used an Elgato USB capture device if I don’t need the raw quality. It captures directly to MP4 and seems to do its own noise clean up and deinterlace.

As well as MPSC, I’ve tried Handbrake (with debomb) & Compressor also. I’m just looking for a solution or trick to fix this. I have FCPX, Premiere, Resolve, Fusion.

It seems like the interlaced lines aren’t lining up correctly (like the image was possibly scaled, but when I pull the still into photoshop, that’s not the case). I just got an email today, that the producer may have found another version of the file.

I’m having the same issue. And why is there a greyed-out “New Smart Collection” when you right click on the drive? Why put it there if you can’t do it?

Someone else recently told me to checkout their Episode software. I was kinda hoping there were some other options out there, but it seems like this is the software for it.

    Thanks.
