  • Have tried importing an image sequence of stills, applying media level stabilization. Most dslrs are capable of shooting larger images than HD video. Use the extra image size to work the stabilization. Hyperlapse is just time lapse with motion stabilization, nothing that new.

    Can you upload a short sample to GDrive or Dropbox, so we can see what you are getting?

    Can you give us some idea of your workflow? Like camera to output file? What codecs and project format are you trying to render to .mov?

    What .MOV codec are you required to deliver in?

    It sounds a like an interlace issue, but hard to say with out seeing it. Maybe make sure your project is set to progressive and your render output to progressive as well.

    Vegas renders to what you choose to render to. Render again to Sony AVC/.mp4. It is hard to tell from your post, but that is probably what you are looking for.

    .mxf is a file wrapper like .mp4,.mov,.avi. VLC player will playback .mxf files, windows media player will not.

    What I think will be interesting to see is if the next versions of Vegas will get the new Catalyst Engine. If not, then Sony will likely carry both Catalyst and Vegas out a few more iterations, until the need for codecs or workflow drive Vegas users to upgrade.

    It is possible that Vegas will be the next block in the catalyst chain, since Browse, Prepare, Edit, Vegas would fit the pipeline for feature editing. Just not the all-in-one/one man band methodology we have seen working in the past.

    Browse = general viewing of dailies or materials
    Prepare = DIT / Color
    Edit = Assistant Editor / DIT
    Vegas = Editor
    “Catalyst ?? Output” = maybe batch output to MPEG-DASH streaming resolutions, and DCP.

    It does seem like the Sony Camera division releases in Japan should be in lock step with SCS releases. Vegas/Catalyst should be the given away with every Sony camera much like Blackmagic does with resolve, and their waveform software.

    Just some thoughts.

  • This type of issue can be hard to solve depending on how new your system hardware is. Couple things you could try are:

    Set screen res to 1080p, so that you are only capturing 1080p. This will reduce P\pixel scaling.

    Microsoft Encoder 4 – use the screen cap tool, and set the bit rate to 10000 or 30000 and capture the full 1080p screen. Use encoder 4 to render a .WMV to 10Mbs, Youtube and Twitch will accept WMV.

    Use an external encoder/2nd PC like a Blackmagic Intensity or Shuttle, run an HDMI cable, set 1st pc to 1080p display clone, and record that output on 2nd Encoder. Use the Blackmagic Media tool to record to .AVI-MJPEG or uncompressed. Use Vegas to edit these files, and render to BM-MJPEG, XDCAM.mxf, or highbit(16-22mbs)rate Sony AVC.mp4. Upload either format to Youtube, or twitch.

    Some new PC hardware and GPUs have tools and hardware specially designed to record display to .MP4.

    Just remember that recording to 1080p from a 1080p source will give you the sharpest results. You also want to roughly double the upload bit rate of your source file, because the hosting service like youtube will compress the image again.

    What is your workflow from camera/capture to display? Trying to understand the uncompressed need.

    Do you get the same issue rendering image sequence to something like PNG or EXR?

  • The H57 motherboard is not bad board and should render much faster than what you are seeing. I have a P55 with i7 870, with 32GB ram, and HD5770 and get somewhere just below realtime renders. Your choice of effects, compositing/layers can increase your render times significantly. Try sticking with Sony only GPU effects, and no 3rd party effects as a test. You do not really go into what codecs you are rendering from and to, this can make a difference as well. That HD5400 GPU you have is really low power, and needs to go.

    What I would do first is use applications like “Speccy” & GPU-z, and verify a few items in your configuration.

    Is your Motherboard BIOS up to the latest version?

    Memory – what speed?

    You should have PC3-1333 or PC3-10600 under Speccy> RAM>SPD>Max Bandwidth, or DRAM frequency should read 666Mhz.
    Run a Command Line window and test “winsat mem” You should be in the neighborhood of 10GB/s+

    Disk – Are your disks operating at maximum interface speeds?

    Under Speccy> STORAGE>”your disk model”>FEATURES>you want NCQ for both BOOT and Media drives.
    Under Speccy>STORAGE>”your disk model”> Compare SATA type to the “Transfer mode and Interface.” These should match. If they do not, it’s not a show stopper obviously but does indicate room for improvement.

    I recommend an SSD BOOT disk, but changing this out might be overwhelming for most.

    Is your GPU running at maximum interface speed?

    Using the GPU-z application from techpower up, roll over the Bus Interface field and a popup should appear. Verify that the interface speeds are maxed for your GPU. If not, there may be a BIOS setting issue, or an addon card installed that is causing the interface to run at reduced speed. For example USB3 in BIOS turbo mode can limit 16X PCIe slot to run at 8X.


    Video Drivers up to date?

    Clearly the HD5400 is not optimal, make sure you have the latest drivers for whatever GPU you end up with.

    Google / Verify DPC Latency:

    Make sure your system does not have a bad driver or hardware item that is causing system wait.

    Upgrading your machine may be an option, but for the money, buying the same R9 270 that John recommended, and installing it to Gen4 Intel system would be better spent. An off the shelf Gen4 (i7-4770) system will have faster memory, more memory, faster CPU, and PCIe 3.0. PCIe 3.0 is faster, has less operating overhead than 2.0, and would be optimized for R9 270. If you do go the whole system upgrade, you may as well get an r9 290x at that point for optimization reasons.

    Windows uses memory in way that having more memory than what the application is using can actually improve render performance. Windows does huge disk cache based on the amount of free memory. It will always be faster to call render information from disk cache than from the disk itself. Upgrading to say 16GB of DDR3 1333 would be optimal for your system. You do not need to spend a great deal of cash on uber gaming memory. I have 32GB of PNY PC3-1333 cheapo memory and my system is very stable. Just make sure to get like for like memory across the slots. Keep memory same make, model, speed. ECC memory is not needed and is more expensive, MACs tend to use ECC and that is why you will see those modules listed as a choice.

    Make sure the “Ram Preview” is set to the default in Vegas. Some recommend a zero setting to improve stability, but I believe this is due to other problems on the system or GPU type. More RAM preview will help Shift+B renders but, also will take away from disk cache in Windows. Zero setting on my I7-870 system increased render times greatly.

    Try a different workflow for media rendering.
    If shooting to AVCHD from say a DSLR. Trying rendering all Camera media to XDCAM-EX.MFX, then edit the XDCAM-EX.MXF, Render to XDCAM-EX.MXF. XDCAM.MXF editing is much more stable than editing camera source media. Use something like Handbreak to compress .MXF to .mp4, or upload the xdcam.mxf directly to Youtube, or service you are hosting to. XDCAM will also work in DVDA if you are making DVDs.

    Yes. The help file gives instructions on how to do this.

    Basically you just move you cursor where you want the CC, and hit C. Then change the command to CC. Enter the CC you want to appear.

    You can use edit details window to see your list of CC, or make faster changes.

    You could also try uploading your file to youtube, using the auto discovered CC, correct that CC, then download the CC file to include in your project.

    Some codecs like xdcam support embedded cc, while others you need to use a separate CC text file.
