You could go to 10 bit uncompressed if your system can handle it.

Personally I find RED so noisy to begin with that ProResHQ is a beautiful fit.

Ah, I see. Probably seems best to ProRes and put to tape. What you have is as good as it gets.

    why de-interlace and rate conversion?

If you’re working in 23.98 HD then you can make a 23.98 .m2v file for DVD (this is ideal format for DVD). Or if you’re working in 1080i you can make a 29.97 file for DVD.

Turn off Frame Controls and Compressor can spit out a 1080 feature film to DVD resolution lickety split.

[Jeremy Garchow] “Huh. Wonder what that will bring and where the clamp will take place.

It notes that NBC, for instance, has software that looks at the audio level of an incoming commercial and adjusts the gain before it goes into their distribution network. Seems like the most foolproof way: have every submitted tape analyzed to fit the station’s desired dB output.

Do your audio pan on one clip. Highlight it. Copy (command+c). now highlight ALL the other audio clips that need that pan setting. Right click on that. In the resulting drop down menu: paste attributes. Pan will be an option.

This also works for practically anything. Cropping. Filters. Audio Levels. Opacity. Speed….

What kind of system are you using? What kind of video card? I assume you’re going to HD tape?

For me I would simply have my Kona card do a live 3:2 pulldown and lay back to 1080i/2997.
