Yeah, I’ve tried bringing the XDCAM files into a Blackmagic preset project.
I imported XDCAM 60i footage into a Blackmagic 8-bit 29.97 interlaced project. When I’d bring the XDCAM files onto the timeline, they appeared to need rendering. Also, when I play the XDCAM files on the timeline, they keep dropping frames.

It’s actually an Nvidia Quadra FX1500 card, not 1400. Sorry.

UPDATE.
I am trying this again using a frame size of 1920 x 1080 when re-exporting with the Blackmagic Codec. I will let you all know if it works.

We did letterbox because this is going to be shown on construction locations on consumer 4×3 televisions. Widescreen would just be letterboxed on them anyway.

Maybe I should have explained this better. Let me give some background info. I work for an ad agency. Our system there is too old and slow to edit HD. I have little say in how much money is spent on upgrades there (but if you ask me, any production company that hasn’t gotten on-board with HD is doomed to failure). I also run a freelance business. My system here (at home) is plenty fast enough to edit HD. I have the upgrade to CS3 which makes it able to edit XDCAM natively no problem.
Originally, this project was going to be cut on my home system in HD. Once the budget cut hit with the client, they (the client) wanted it delivered in SD. My bosses then decided to have the footage downconverted so that it could be edited there (at my full time job), rather than here (at my freelance location). Editing it there makes it easier for the client to sit in on edit sessions (since my home office is 20 miles away from most of our clients). That’s the reason why they need it in SD. If it were up to me, I’d be editing in XDCAM from home.

I already tried a test project on my primary internal SATA drive. No luck. Same problem.

No, it is not trying to create a PEK file. It is a very strange issue. Annoying to say the least. I made sure to buy a high-end video card fully supported by Adobe. I don’t get this. Thanks for responding though.

What does exporting as AAF mean, and how do you do it in CS3?

I’ve sat quiet here for three years and completed every task that has been thrown at me (business and personal projects alike). I have never once complained to my bosses, and as far as they’re concerend, “I’m the best editor they’ve ever had”. And I know, if I’m not happy, no one is “forcing” me to stay. But in today’s day and age, full-time jobs are few and far between. Despite my rantings, I am very thankful to have a job.
Thank God for places like the cow. Venting my frustrations here has prevented me from losing my cool at work. 3 + years working somewhere without even a cost of living increase is enough to make anyone bitter.
I do respect the diversity of opinions here.
