The calculated bit-rate is the one that you should use, since that is the optimal setting for your specific project.
Video encoder quality really makes no considerable difference. If you want to export the file a LOT faster, then select a quality of “3”. If not, you can leave it at the default “5”

Unfortunately, no. Unless, you open the project file in a text editor, which I wouldn’t reccomend.

Create a new project and try importing the corrupted project into the new one.

I would reccomend installing a fresh copy of Windows XP and then immediately after that install SP2. I know its not the easiest solution, but this will reduce the amount of headaches later on. After you are done installing the Operating System, follow Matrox’s installation guide. -
I would start out by reading/watching the COW’s AE tutorials.

DVD Lab does not accept AVI files and hence you will have to export them via Adobe Media Encoder.Regarding the bitrates, I will reccomend taking a look at this: https://www.videohelp.com/calc.htm
It will give you the exact answers you are looking for.

You answered your own question. A capture card is primarily useless unless your system is extremely slow.
