The logo means that it is a trial version. You need to pay approximately $40 for the full version. IMO definitely worth it. Also, if it is capturing in different files,it means that scene detection is on. You need to turn it off from the menu.

Well, I use PCMCIA cards within little difficulty. The only problem is to make sure that nothing else is accessing the card at the same time. It works, but not as well. Another solution would be to daisy chain your harddrive and your DV deck. This is what I did with my ancient desktop.

Let me rephrase my question: Was the tape shot continuously or did you record 5 minutes, rewind, review the content and then proceed? If that is not the case, did this problem occur earlier? Or did it just start happening? If it just started happening did you install any new hardware or software? If not, then download the trial version of ScLive and see if you get any similar error messages.

Well, you would always need an external drive regardless. Considering the cost of laptop drives and comparing them to external firewire drives, the firewire drive would be the better choice.

It is not possible to link rendered or preview files. As Steven suggests, delete the Preview files and render again.

For online clips, use the Adobe Media Encoder. The settings depend on the type of footage you have (fast action) and the duration of the footage. However, please remember that there is always a compensation between the quality and the size.
