Craig, I edit with Media 100 and that takes media in as QT .Mov using the Sony Transfer application, is that also with no loss of quality?

Why is Jim Wigler even reading this forum if he “feels sick” even thinking about Media 100. I for one, would not contemplate moving over to FCP, it may do more that’s true but there are also so many disadvantages. Jim, your contributions are not helping anyone and, speaking personally, make me feel “a bit sick”.

  • Craig, WHY? I have been dragging and dropping BPAV files into suitably named folders for a year now with never a problem. I know what your dictum is but don’t fully understand your reasons. I use the Sony Transfer software to cherry pick from the clips before importing to my edit system but drag and drop the files from the cards.

  • Yes, it is USB but the camera end has to be the small connection, not the usual big one. Don’t know how easy they are to come by, mine was with the camera on purchase.

  • I have just downloaded the BPAV files from two S X S cards directly from my EX1 into my MacBook Pro using the lead supplied with the camera. I then dragged and dropped the BPAV files onto an external drive as back up. I often do this on location too. Be aware that you must not interfere with these files in any way, keep the whole BPAV and in your label for any folders include the letters BPAV in your title.

I’ve just finished shooting the ‘Making Of’ a feature film being shot in North London. I used my EX1, the DOP of the feature used an EX3 with movie tube and prime lenses. It looks great.

Thanks Craig, that sounds like sense. I suppose one might ask how will we play these in 20 years time but I guess a file, is a file, is a file and some version of QT will decipher a .Mov

Craig, I don’t think anyone answered a question he put early on in the thread, namely, how do the tapleless guys (I’m one now) deal with the finished production off the timeline? I master to tape (only DVCAM) but would like to do better.

Jack, see my post after yours but nobody seems interested in our plight, poor little us! It’s probably ‘user error’!

Exactly the same is happening with me, also version 13 but even with the time FX on its own. Rendering hardly improves the judder. It has the same look as a field problem but as I know Media 100 is ‘top field first’ I don’t think any settings have been altered. Whilst writing I would mention that since going to version 13 I am having problems with titling in Boris Graffiti. The kerning seems to have gone mad when I type in the box. I am having to set each letter individually with the kerning slider, never had to do that before, anyone else had this problem?
