There you are Jim, Media 100 is better! I honestly believe it’s still the best and most logical NLR. Certainly as far as importing via the EX Transfer it is straightforward enough.

Was with him yesterday at a Sony camera day at Top-Teks (UK) and he is great. Didn’t show any lightning though.

Don’t know but that ‘tiny connector on the side’ is Firewire and just the job for SD video.

I am really AMAZED that not one of you has mentioned the one huge difference between the EX 1 and EX3 – the VIEWFINDER. The glass over the screen on the EX3 makes it so much easier to focus, especially in bright daylight. I stuck to the EX1 because it’s lighter and does all I need but I do find it tricky to focus with that screen – so much so that I’m investigating the possibility of fitting the finder from the 3 on to the screen of my camera.
Also I can’t understand all the talk over the workflow. The Sony Transfer does a great job in presenting all the clips from a card (file) which you can edit before importing straight into your chosen NLE – Media 100 in my own case. Just the same as with tape but faster.

I recently re read the initial publicity sheets for the EX1 and it says that at wide angle the focal length corresponds to 31mm in 35mm terms. At the tele end it was something like 430mm.

You are going to be in terrible trouble with Craig (of this forum) because he has been batting on for months on how we have to transfer THE COMPLETE BPAV FOLDERS, untouched, unopened and if you rename you must include BPAV in the folder title.

Now Steve, why would anyone want to exhibit sarcasm to such a nice guy as you appear to be. In my humble opinion all this updating of various bits of software causes more problems than it solves. The old dictum ‘if it ain’t broke don’t fix it’ holds good. The trouble is often you have to update because a new piece of kit demands it. We are all slaves to the marketing boys. It sounds like you have a conflict somewhere but what do I know, I’m just an old man trying to make films.

I have had the same problem with ultra BCU’s, never knew the Macro did not operate in full MF, don’t think this is mentioned in the manual. Thanks for this info Chris.

The last time I had a firmware upgrade I had it done free while I waited. That was in the UK where everyone in the business is always helpful and friendly.

Exactly what I do and I’m now getting far better quality DVD’s with the newest BitVice version (named SD, does that mean that HD is on the way?). The new BitVice downscale is tops. One word of warning however. Media 100 uses a different RGB system than other edit systems so ALWAYS check the ‘Use Studio RGB’ box and just as important, check the ‘Use Gamma 2.2’ because that prevents a loss of contrast. Also of course check ‘Interlaced Input’ if you have shot interlaced and ‘Top Field First’.
I then format with Studio Pro and burn with Toast.
