XDCAM Transfer
Posted by Jim Mcnally on September 22, 2009 at 8:35 pmWhen I import my clips from XDCAM xfer into FCP can I put them directly into a bin? Right now they just dump into a project and then I have to sort them into a bin amongst all the existing files.

September 22, 2009 at 11:40 pmHave you tried setting a logging bin in FCP?

September 23, 2009 at 12:19 amI believe I tested setting a logging bin once and it didn’t seem to work. It was a while ago.
That’s one reason why I use a two step process of rewrap first and then import into appropriate bin.

September 23, 2009 at 12:22 amI started with setting a logging bin but still went to project.
Craig what is the process you use?

September 23, 2009 at 12:27 amI open XDCAM Transfer as a separate app and target a destination folder rather than an FCP project.
Once everything is re-wrapped, I import into FCP from the destination folder in the appropriate bins. -

September 23, 2009 at 1:29 amIn Media 100 all you do is create a new bin and import straight into it direct from transfer tool – seamless! Surely it works as easily as this in FCP?
Cheers

September 23, 2009 at 2:11 amOkay, thanks Craig I’ll have to try that approach. That would still be better than Paul’s suggestion of having to using Media 100 to do it…four years was enough!! lol

September 23, 2009 at 2:14 pmI just tried importing using the XDCAM transfer plug-in to FCP and got the same result as you did. Even by flagging a bin as the Logging Bin, opening it, and right-clicking to import Sony XDCAM. Imported files just went to the main project window. Weird.
I don’t normally import footage this way so I hadn’t noticed that.

September 23, 2009 at 5:17 pmThere you are Jim, Media 100 is better! I honestly believe it’s still the best and most logical NLR. Certainly as far as importing via the EX Transfer it is straightforward enough.
