  • Well Esther, all I can do is list what I do and my Blu-Rays look ace on big plasma screens.

I don’t want menus though, I just want my film to play when I press play on the player, so your requirement is different. You mention Blu-Ray in the same breath as DVD, they are very different animals. Blu-Ray is only for full HD (1920 X 1080) and DVD is SD only and the codecs are different. I don’t use Toast for DVD’s, I use BitVice which does a brilliant downscale from HD before encoding the mpeg 2 SD file. I can’t help more I’m afraid but others doubtless will.

  • For heavens sake I think you are ‘making a meal’ of this.
I edit in the ProRes HQ codec in Media 100, not FCP it’s true. I export a QT .Mov still in the ProRes codec. All I then do is drag my .Mov file into Toast 11 Pro and it encodes the Blu-Ray , taking about the same time as the production runs for. I then burn my BD in a stand alone Lacie BD player / burner from the computer – a Mac Pro.

You should be able to do exactly this. My BD’s look terrific by the way.

I agree totally with everyone but, why can’t we continue using Media 100, upgrades or not? I was editing 16mm film prior to 1996 that’s ho old I am! I found, and still do, that Media 100 better replicates film editing and is easier and quicker, than any other system. The updates to HD etc were essential but now, with the exception of 3D (and who wants that?) what do we need? The integration with Boris Red should give us enough surely.

However, a word from Boris himself would be nice. He gave me his business card a few years back, I must look it up and see what mail address he has on it.

Sounds like an aspect matter. Both shot 16:9, timeline configured 16:9?

Actually, any decent view finder is badly needed for this camera. I’ve asked Sony to tr and adapt the EX 3 arrangement over the screen but they weren’t interested. The screen is OK but a good view finder would be better.

September 29, 2012 at 2:01 pm in reply to: EX3 Firmware Install from SxS Card

I can’t see how you can possibly do this unless they mean that you have to download the firmware on to an S X S card which I’ve not heard before. PP’s from a card yes but firmware?

Are you anywhere near a Sony supplier who has there own engineers? I always get my firmware updates done free here in the UK by my supplier. Maybe you will get slightly more informed answers here in due course.

Here in the UK Marcus you can get any number of VHS decks for nothing, I’ve dumped at least two at our nearest re cycling depot and I have friends with more to get rid of. We are more advanced over here, DVD and BD have been the only way to view anything for the punters for quite a while.

Marcus, I always do it the way you mention, VHS on to DV tape then ingest into Media 100 the usual way. It’s a bit long winded but it works and won’t mean buying any more kit. Where are the Media 100 T shirts?

I think that Marcus should be appointed as the chief PR representative of Media 100, does Boris approve this?
