I use this to create a .img which I can drag into Toast pro 11 to burn a DVD, get a great result. By importing to Studio Pro the m2v and audio ac3 files, they then get merged into the .img. I only use Toast for the burning process.

I think that happened because the codec automatically comes with FCP. However, I don’t have FCP, just Media 100 and when I want to choose a codec for a project I get ProRes 422 HQ offered along with many many more. Maybe the people who install stuff for me put it in.

Thanks Jeff, I really did think that, but couldn’t resist a little dig at the American assumption hat all things begin and end in America! Sounds a good kit bundle though.

August 25, 2014 at 10:35 am in reply to: Best way to put my animation short-film (HD PNG Sequence + WAV file) to DVD for festival screeningThere are three things that you can do. Firstly, as Gerry says, the only HD disc is a Blu-Ray. I make these by exporting my film in the ProRes 422 HQ codec and drag the resulting QT .mov file into Titanium Toast Pro 11 which then encodes and burns a BD. I use a stand alone Lacie BD burner for this. No need to go near Studio Pro for this. The disc will look great.
You could also put the ProRes file on to a high capacity memory stick (there are some of 32 Gb’s, not expensive) and send that to the festival.
You could ignore the request for HD and make a DVD using the great BitVice software for the encode. The resultant DVD will still look great, I’ve had DVD’s made this way projected on a large cinema screen and the picture looked very good.

As far as I am aware most of us users of Media 100 have a tapeless workflow and have no problem importing the files. Speaking personally, I shoot on a Sony EX 1 on to the Sony S x S cards. Using the Sony Transfer software I then import whatever sections I need of the clips that show up within the Transfer application. On import Media 100 renders the footage into your chosen codec for a given project and it appears in an open bin as hitherto. There’s hardly any difference from what we did with tape. I don’t think, however, that Transfer as such is still currently available, you will need something like Sony Content Browser, this is a bit more complicated but, amongst many other tasks, it does much the same thing.

I get much the same reaction, in fact most people just look blank. Just shows how a brand can be damaged by poor management, this should be used as an example on Business Administration courses. There is nothing wrong with the product, it’s as good now as it has ever been and does a magnificent job. It wouldn’t take much to revive it, but Adobe and Apple are taking the trouble. I just want to stay with it, let’s hope we all can.

Marcus, yes I’m here but goodness knows who else is. Maybe it’s just summer. I’m not feisty at all, it’s just that all the fancy stuff we see around is not really substance, just style. By the way, my name is with an ‘L’ rather than a ‘T’, Slowe, like my driving, (my wife wishes!).

Marcus, of course I’m out there (here!). Still editing on Media 100, STILL the best editing system there is, tell me what beats it. As you say, it does look as though Boris is not planning to spend any more money on it, pity, but it would be difficult to see how it could be improved as things stand. Provided it keeps up with new OS’s then I’m happy enough.
On your other points: I don’t understand your enthusiasm for all the twirly, swirly Transitions. Apart from TV commercials and graphics before some programmes, who needs them? I’m editing documentaries https://vimeo.com/user17404759 which hopefully stand on their own without the need for jazzy bits and pieces. Fades and mixes are invaluable of course. Your question concerning opacity of fades is puzzling, surely the opacity graduates along the duration of the fade?
As to Tutorials from Floh, yes, it would be great to have more, and my favourite request would be a comprehensive one on Colour Grading. The RGB option is great but speaking personally I would like to refine my skills with this. Could we please have a Post from both Media 100 (Boris) and Floh, if he has time, I know he’s busy running Magic Eye!

I just get in my car and drive for 20 minutes to Top – Teks at Harefield, near Uxbridge. They are brilliant at doing updates.
