Sorry, yes, I misunderstood. I was confused by the fact that with the Media 100 HDx board only embedded audio in SD can be ingested. The new AJA board can handle both HD and SD embedded audio.

Felix, thanks, very interesting as Floh says. I presume you have the HDx Media 100 board as do I. I understood that that can handle embedded audio through the HD-SDI from the camera but only in SD. You seem to be indicating that you can’t get audio in either HD or SD. What was the picture quality like with this direc transfer from the camera? Some people thought that it was degraded when brought in through the SDI output rather than as files from the card, which of course, Media 100 can’t handle yet.

Felix, I wouldn’t hold your breath for Media 100 to sort the EX1, there is an ominous silence in answer to the query I posted the other day.

Felix, if you edit on Media 100 (you are on that forum) why are you getting the camera if you can’t edit the media?
I believe you can take video direct through the HD SDI out but it will be with embedded audio. If you, as I am, are still using a Media 100 with the HDx board, you won’t be able to take the embedded audio unless you get the (expensive) AJA ‘splitter’. There has been a lot of correspondence on, I think, the Cow Sony Cine Alta forum about how compressed the picture might be through SDI. All in all it’s not too hopeful for Media 100 editors at this stage.

Thanks Juan. Is the audio embedded when you take video out from HD-SDI? My Media 100 can’t take in embedded audio, do Sony do any kind of ‘splitter’?

Has anyone yet acquired actual HD VIDEO directly into their edit system via the SDI out from the camera?

Dave, I have no problem with your intentions which, lately, have been admirable. My problem would be not with the price of the Media 100 upgrade (bearing in mind what you say) but with the cost of replacing a virtually new G5 with the even newer Intel version. Apple Mac have a lot to answer for in their recent treatment of Media 100 seeing as how you have been such good customers of theirs all these years. Problem is you are too good and they want to push their own FCP!

Dave, I seem to be buying all the time but I must have had the very last HDx board and G5 before you went to AJA and Apple to Intel. That means a new G5 etc etc. Have a heart and go on supporting the HDx systems for a while yet please. That means up dates to be compatible AND XDCAM when you get around to supporting it.

Alessio, I am in PAL land so my settings will be different but as far as your aspect ratios are concerned of course, if you want 16:9 your project has to be set 16:9 and the downconverted HDV (set to ‘squeeze’ remember) will come in at 16:9. You probably know that Media 100 does a great ‘conform’ if you are bringing in 4:3 to a 16:9 project.

Alessio, I have encountered this problem and I think I got over it by downconverting the HDV from the deck direct to a DSR 20 DVCAM deck and then I could acquire the media as DV into media 100 through firewire. Media 100 does not seem to recognize the HDV deck because it thinks it is only going to emit HDV. To keep your downconverted media in 16:9 aspect select the ‘squeeze’ option in the deck menu.
