I’m with the “don’t know what all the fuss is about” crowd 🙂

There’s an easier way to set a specific duration without having to step back a frame or take a frame off in your head:

– With Canvas or Viewer active
– Mark In point as usual
– Press Tab (highlights the duration field)
– Enter the duration
– Press return

But you may end up doing that like what, twice a year? You have to bang back one frame every time you set an out.

[Joe Murray] “Or would you rather have the option to hit i, o and have a 0 frame duration after doing so?”

In that case the in point would be replaced on the timeline with the out point.

I think they should. It’s much simpler and cleaner the other way. You don’t need to do math in your head, the durations all come out correct, and you don’t need to bang back one frame or have extra tab keys on the keyboard as a workaround.

I’ve worked both ways on NLEs and I greatly prefer setting the in and the out the same way, with the cut at the beginning of the frame. It seems like such a simple change. I’m surprised that they haven’t done it already.

Just make it a pref. It will be the best upgrade FCP has ever had!!! The 3 best NLE I have ever worked on were Light works edit* and DS (before avid avidised it) and the out point was correct. I had to replace my keyboard the other month because the back arrow had given up (to much editing!) IT AN EXTRA KEYSTROKE on every O KEY you hit when your editing. I know the x key mark it right but the x key is not often a solution with 3 point editing. It has been bought up enough times, and yes we are all getting sick of discussing it so make it a pref. I would rather that when I am editing than more reltime effects that we will see in the next version.
