  • Will be After Effects CS4 64 bit?

Posted by Jim Farlop on October 23, 2008 at 10:29 pm

Hi, I would like to know if finally After Effects CS4 will become 64 bit. If so, why there’s no mention of that in the adobe’s web?

    Under Windows, yes.
    Under OSX, not until CS5.

So, why in the trial version of AE CS4 only appears AE 32bits????

Are you talking about 64 bit processing or 64 bit color?
    It definitely isn’t 64-bit color.
32 bit color is pretty impressive as is.

I mean 64bit code, being able to have more than 4gb memory for the program itself, like in Phoroshop CS4 64bit.

What operating system are you using? Is it a 64 bit OS?
    Also, I haven’t used CS4 yet, so I can’t guarantee it is 64 bit.
It was reported to be prior to release, but that may have changed.

i actually thought it was only the pc version of photoshop that was 64-bit… i thought the rest of cs4 was only 32-bit. that was from early reports that i had read, i really hadn’t checked into it beyond that… still running cs3 here.

You are probably right. I do specifically remember reading that Photoshop would be 64 bit. I thought I had read it would leak into AE and some other CS4 apps, but maybe that was wishful thinking on my part.

AE is not 64 bit encoded but it optimized for quad core and dual core processors. There is a really cool slider option that allows you to choose either longer ram previews or faster rendering. The option allocates any extra ram you have to the extra processor that might be available. Hope that helps.
