January 17, 2008 at 8:56 pmWell, on a scale of 1 to 10, i rate my Adrenaline 7.
No RT downconvert of 720P material, as i just found out.
Adrenaline is nothing more than an IO box. And yes, it’s a darn expensive one nowadays. But, i’ve bought a full blown MC system for way less than my Xpress Elite meridien system.
As for Avid advertisements, before buying i got an invitation to come to Avid Netherlands, where the general manager gave me a demonstration, and i was free to testdrive any feature.
No hidden surprises for me.For 45K, what would you buy that has the same feature set / stability / support (well, Avid netherlands support is excellent) and user base with know-how and workarounds?
For the next period i’m not switching. If i need to use FCP (i have a full blown FCP rig), i would do it. But the moment i get a choice (and i always do :-), i prefer Avid.Only serious drawback of Avid for me, is the lack of XML or other language to automate stuff.

January 18, 2008 at 1:27 amAdrenaline is not dead. I do, and have done some pretty amazing stuff on mine. Many have told me that the jobs I’ve done can only be done on a smoke or in A.E. and both! It’s cool when they freak cause I’ve to told them where and how I did it. I’m a finisher and I’m glad to do it. I like making things look better. but without Avid what would most of us be finishing on??? FCP is not a reliable finishing machine. What will the final product be put out by? And as far as Avid vs. FCP, come on, that’s really become PC vs. MAC! And that war is ugly.

January 18, 2008 at 2:05 amIf I’m not paying the bills to purchase equipment, I’ll take an Adrenaline over any final cut system. I’ll take a symphony
Nitris over an Adrenaline if I really can spend someone else’s
money.I still find Avid to be more stable and more reliable than final cut.
I wish Avid would update their interface a little though,
especialy they way they handle effects.Scott Cumbo

A Symphony Nitris? That’s really what they should be selling for. I’m guessing next month we’ll see something close to that.

January 18, 2008 at 5:12 pmIf there is a good news… thats what it is.
Have you seen used Nitris prices? As shops replacing their middle end gear with FCP setups decide to replace the high end suite as well, more and more Nitris systems become available to those of us who still want one at the price point it should have originally been.
In the waiting game between FCP bettering their media management or Avid bettering everything but their media management, a used Nitris seems to be the cat’s meow right now.

January 19, 2008 at 12:03 amReplace a Nitrus with a FCP?!????? How can that be? No one would use a nitrus to do anything but Finish work. And to replace it with a FCP!!? They might as well use sissors and a screwdriver, open up tapes and use scotch tape to put it all back together. I dare any FCP finisher to insert a shot onto a clients Only Master. And to really put the fear into them, keep the client in the room. If they’re lucky this won’t be the 1 out 8 times when it inserts on to the wrong timecode.

January 20, 2008 at 1:08 pmThe latest version of Avid Composer 2.8 includes manuals which says ‘Avid Composer and Sympony Nitris’ Basic Guide…
Is this some indication of Avid plans in Feb…..Hmmmm

January 30, 2008 at 6:04 pmhard to say.
I thought it was weird when they released symphony Nitris with so many things wrong with what they now are calling their Media Composer.
Thats the bottom line. They began by making one product and they did it better than anyone else. They saw big profits from expanding their line and then didn’t know when to stop. This resulted in canibalization and a huge drop in quality on all products developed by Avid. DS was always sound but then, they didn’t write that one, did they.
They have been on a downward spiral too long to recover now.
a merger is on the horizon.
