Not delivery as a master, but delivery to actual consumers. I’m saying that if the actual MPEG-2 stream that’s on the XDCam’s disk is the same stream (not recompressed) that gets beamed up to the satellite dish, then it’s probably great for people in that field.

April 15, 2005 at 4:32 amSorry to be a dampener but I hope they first set some old things right in addition to any new things they’re planning. Like …
1. Give Multibridge customers a Multibridge that works. I have two in my cupboard that don’t with no sign of when I’m getting new ones.
2. Fix the ref sync issue in HD Plus and HDPro cards for users in a facility with house sync and video routers. Where HDPlus and HDPro are currently are unusable or useble without ref.
3. Include HDPlus in connection diagrams at their web site, and in manuals.
4. Deliver cards with the latest connection diagrams and manuals. My HDPlus (3) and HDPro were delivered without connection diagrams in Dec 04. And the web site still doesn’t have a connection diagram.Neil

April 15, 2005 at 2:33 pmWithout AV i/o this devise would be nothing more than a hard drive. The idea is to make it a truly VTR replacement; a hybrid concept that will cover all the bases. The file transfer method is efficient and that is why an ethernet port should be included, but not all play-back video servers use the same file format, albeit the mayority of then use MXF. Manufacturers customize the file format to improve performance, making the system more proprietary than open standard. What all video server have in common is video and audio in/out. A VTR like HD will be more versatile since it can be used as a play back device for presentations or as a slave for tape to tape editing or dups. It is about having more options and no excuses. Computer networks in broadcast operations are complex and most broadcasters will feel more confortable connecting a “VTR” to their editing or on-air play-back systems than having to mess with the IT network.

April 15, 2005 at 2:51 pmTotally agree with Neil.
Get last years NAB stuff actually working – then we may look to see what they have for this year.
I am getting this sinking feeling that the highly regarded Multibridge that we are still waiting for is going to become “vaporware”. Nice box – great ideas, too bad it doesn’t work. I hope I’m wrong because we could really really use it now, but I wonder if it may not ever come out.
Also, a “pro” card without the ability to sync to house sync is unacceptable. Getting this fixed should be a priority over unveiling new inventions that aren’t ready for production, and may not be for another year.
