What exactly is Media Management? (Premiere is lacking this….people say)

I’m not sure if PPro 2 allows making sub-clips of sub-timelines. Besides, the edit has been mostly built. The only way around ingesting 33 hours would appear to be replacing the subtimlines with source and I can’t see any easy way to do it that doesn’t involve multiple tedious steps. Easier to reingest.

So can Premiere Pro 2.0 do this now? I know it wasn’t possible with 1.5 but I’m hoping 2.0 can do it…. Also does anyone know where I can find screenshots or more info on the new Media Manager? I can’t seem to find much….Thanks

This “double system” is a problem with Premiere. The only way to sync the clips and keep them synced is the way that David has indicated unless someone has a better idea.
The other factor is that the files recorded with the Soound Design or Fostex are recorded in Broadcast Wave format which means that it includes the TC in the metadata. Unless things have changed in PPro2 or Audition2 both these applications are without BWF support. Typically the TC is jammed from the audio recorder to the camera so they are both showing the same TC. This makes it easy to sync but you can’t lock the audio to the picture. If you could then the trimming of projects would work.
This is very important in documentary and feature work and Axio is not going to help except if you capture all your footage at on-line resolution in the first place.

It shows a complete lack of understanding of the software/formats/ and offline/online workflow specially when it comes to HDV and timecode! PPro could easily do what you ask had you set up the project properly to begin with.

I had hoped you would provide us with this “easy” solution to approaching this task as this is a common need for most of us who work with double-system sound. As Tim accurately points out, one of the “shortcomings” of HDV is audio quality and it would really be great to find the proper project setup you mentioned, please don’t end this very important and informative thread in dead silence. . .

It isn’t wasted if you can help somebody…if you do have an alternative workflow, I’m sure it would benefit more than just David and Larry…I haven’t gone there yet, but I can’t say that dual-system sound isn’t going to come up at SOME point this year…

…I’ve put up more than a couple posts on the Cow that I wish I could take back…heat of the moment…some other external reason to be in a bad mood…it happens. If you really do have an option…please, offer it.
