  • Video preview problem: sound only, NO video

Posted by Greg Spark on February 17, 2013 at 9:42 am

I have just started using Sony Movie Studio Platinum 12 and cannot get ANY video on the timeline to display in the preview window – editing is impossible without this of course!
The sound from the clip plays and the frame counter runs – just no video – a black screen.
The trimmer window displays the video perfectly.
I have tried many different file formats from different origin sources with the same result.
I am incredibly frustrated and any help would be appreciated.
    TIA
    Greg

Are you sure that your video track is not muted?
It’s the icon on the left with the circle with the line through it.

[Greg Spark] “I have tried many different file formats from different origin sources with the same result.”

What video format are you using? (i.e., what codec does it use)?

Are you using the 32-bit or 64-bit version of Movie Studio 12?

Do you have the proper 32-bit or 64-bit codec installed to support that video format?

No video is usually cause by a missing codec.

The video mute button was not on for the track BUT have discovered the problem thanks to a single post buried deep in a thread (I had searched and searched before I posted):

There is an option to “Mute all video” in the Video Preview preferences . I never turned it on but it was on. Unchecked and problem solved.

I had been in correspondence with Sony Support and they never suggested that as an answer.

Thanks for your replies guys. Great forum!

I’ve never heard of such an option nor can I find it. Can you post a screen shot of this option so we can see where it is?

    Greg,
‘Mute all video’ is in Options (Menu Bar), not in Preferences.

Oh yea there it is. I don’t use the menus much so I’ve never seen that before.
